Winterguard Concludes Successful Year

TRUMBULL – The Newtown High School winterguard put the finishing touches on its 2003-04 season with a MAC (Musical Arts Conference) championship back on April 24.

More than 20 guards competed, with the Newtown squad going up against four other teams in the Scholastic A division. It was a fine finish for a team that, at the beginning of the year, was simply looking for a place to hold practices.

The locals finished first in seven of the 10 competitions in which it participated, place seventh out of 19 teams at the WGI Regional competition at the University of Rhode Island, and placed first at the South-West Conference competition at Bunnell High School in Stratford.

The junior varsity guard placed in their class while the cadets, made up of fifth- and sixth-grade students, finished with a first-place finish.
