Stroke Screenings At St Vincent's
Stroke Screenings At St Vincentâs
BRIDGEPORT, CONN. â In recognition of Stroke Alert Week, May 21â28, St Vincentâs Medical Center will present its first Stroke Screening Day on Thursday, May 27, from noon to 4 pm in the lobby of the medical center. The event is part of a national program sponsored by the American Stroke Association.
According to Sharon Nathman, nurse manager, âThe purpose of the stroke screening is to encourage public awareness of stroke signs and symptoms, and to educate people about stroke prevention and treatment so they would act quickly in the event of an occurrence.â
St Vincentâs will be screening people for stroke risk factors through an assessment form. The risk factors emphasized will be those that can be controlled by the individual. The screening includes a questionnaire, blood pressure check, pulse rate, and carotid bruit. At the end of the 15-minute screening, participants will be provided with a copy of their assessment form.
Nurses who have expertise in caring for stroke patients will perform the assessments. The nurses will educate participants about the newest treatment and testing in this field of medicine. For more information about Stroke Screening Day, contact Rita Siegel at 732-821-2610.
