DANBURY â Mayor Mark Boughton presented John Martocci, chairman and CEO of Newtown Savings Bank, with the 2004 Mary Dolce Memorial Award at Catholic Family Services Annual Charity Ball and Silent Auction, held recently at the Ridgewood Country Club.
The award has been presented annually since 1980 to an outstanding humanitarian whose unselfish dedication is characteristic of Mary Dolceâs contributions to the community.
Mr Martocci, a Newtown resident, has been involved in numerous community service organizations over the years. Currently he serves on the board of Ashlar of Newtown and the board of Danbury Hospital where he chairs the Audit Committee and is a member of the Finance Committee. A member of the United Wayâs board and Executive Committee, he was the chairman of the 2001-2002 Campaign and was formerly co-chair of the United Wayâs Housing Opportunities Community Impact Team.
Mr Martocci also played a pivotal role in the creation of the Family Loan Program at Catholic Family Services of Danbury, engaging three other local banks that, along with Newtown Savings Bank, created a loan pool for qualifying low-income families. This project was the inspiration for the formation of another Catholic Family Services collaborative program, Key Rings, a security deposit assistance program.
His wife Terri-Ann serves on the board of Catholic Family Services. They are members of St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown and have three grown children.
