Graham To Challenge McKinney In 28th District
By Jan Howard
Democrat Morgan Graham, who is seeking her partyâs nod to run for the 28th Senatorial District seat at a convention May 24, made a short presentation to the Newtown Democratic Town Committee at its meeting May 13.
The district includes the towns of Newtown, Fairfield, Easton, and Weston.
Ms Graham would oppose Republican Senator John McKinney, who will be seeking reelection to his fourth term. He was nominated during a convention Wednesday at the Helen Keller Middle School in Easton.
Ms Graham told town committee members that she needs their time, money, and advice during the upcoming campaign. Transportation and environmental issues are the focus of her campaign, according to a recent press release.
Town Committee members advised Ms Graham of some of their concerns, including unfunded state mandates, reduced state funding for education and to offset property taxes, and the loss of funding for purchase of open space.
Selectman Joe Bojnowski noted concerns about the stateâs withdrawal of funding that it had previously committed to the town. âWe depend on that money,â he said. âNewtown gets less and less money every year.â
Ms Graham, a native of Oklahoma, currently works at Prudential Connecticut Realty. She is a six-year resident of Fairfield.
