Fayleen Joy Sauer

Fayleen Joy Sauer, 65, of Pembroke Avenue, Waterbury, devoted wife of Bernard J. Sauer, died at home in the presence of family and friends on May 19. Fayleen was born in Brookfield on March 3, 1939, the daughter of Leon and Lois (Smith) Burdick. She was predeceased by her husband, who died April 21 at the age of 61. She was the sister of Sherry Powell of Sandy Hook.

Fayleen attended Brookfield schools and worked as a machine operator at Kimberly Clark for several years. She enjoyed working on crafts, was an avid doll collector, enjoyed gardening, and traveling. Most importantly though, she was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Fayleen is also survived by her mother, Lois Marion Smith; two sons, Paul and his wife Doreen Van Valkenburgh of Bethel; Kevin and his wife Judy Van Valkenburgh of Florida; four daughters, Karen and her husband Alan Machado of New Milford, Laura Van Valkenburgh of Bethel, Machelle and her husband Steve Pryor of New Milford, and Sherry Van Valkenburgh of Waterbury; another sister, Gail Niles of Spartensburg, S.C.; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday, May 21, from 4 to 7 pm with Parish Prayers at 5 pm.

Funeral Services for Fayleen and her husband Bernie will be held on Wednesday, May 26, at 10 am at the Cornell Memorial Home with Rev Dr Laura Ahrens of St James Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions for Fayleen and Bernie may be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton CT 06897.
