Occupation: Iâm a food service worker for Chartwells. I was at Middle Gate School as head manager for 39 years, then left that position to have more time to spend with my grandchildren. I was at the Newtown High School for three years, and now Iâm at Reed Intermediate School.
Family: My husband, Bert, and I have three children. Rena is married to Dan and lives in Wolcott. Bert is married to Debbie and lives in New Milford. Mark is in Southbury. Heâs married to Missy. We have five grandchildren, Elicia, Gabriella, Zachary, Kenzey, and Chad.
Pets: We had pets when the kids were growing up, but not anymore â just the âpetsâ that come to my bird feeder.
How long have you lived in Newtown? I moved to Newtown in 1964.
What do you like to do in your free time? I do a lot of walking and working in the yard with my flower gardens. I like to spend time with my grandchildren â they take me out, now! When I have time, I do like to read, and Iâm big into jigsaw puzzles. The biggest one Iâve done was 3,000 pieces, and I put it together on my dining room table.
Do you have a favorite author? I read a lot by Danielle Steel, and the autobiography of Katharine Hepburn, M, is a terrific book.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? Old Orchard Beach in Maine is my favorite spot. Las Vegas is my next favorite. I love Bellagioâs Casino. Itâs beautiful. Iâve been on a cruise to Jamaica and Mexico with my daughter and son-in-law, and granddaughter, and that was fun, too.
What is the best thing about Newtown? I like Ram Pasture, and the people here are nice. When I go to the store I run into all the people I know. You canât go anywhere without running into someone you know. And I love The Pleasance and those dog statues. I remember when Lovellâs Garage was on that spot.
What is the biggest change you have seen in town? All of the new stores and people. Lot of places that were woods, now have big houses on them.
Do you have a hero? My late sister, Marie. We got along so good. She took my daughter under her wing, and was always there for me. We were supposed to grow old together.
Do you have a personal philosophy? Hold on, take what comes and deal with it. Enjoy the happy days.
What makes you laugh? My granddaughters. They are like comics. Itâs the best, when they get together.
