Mary Ellen Cohen, 56, of Bridgewater, died unexpectedly, May 14. She was born August 1, 1954, in Derby, daughter of Florence W. Hofmann of Newtown, and the late Irving H. Hofmann, Jr.
Ms Cohen lived most of her adult life in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., before moving to Bridgewater. A graduate of Hartford Hospital School of Allied Health, she initially worked as a certified operating room technician. She later earned her degree in nursing from Broward Community College and worked for many years in the operating room in Florida and Connecticut hospitals. Most recently, she served as orthopedic coordinator at Greenwich Hospital. She was also a school nurse at the Rumsey Hall School in Washington. Throughout her career, Ms Cohen was highly regarded by those who worked with her and made numerous lasting friendships.
She loved to travel and spent much of her leisure time planning memorable vacations to destinations both domestic and abroad. She was a collector of antiques and also enjoyed gardening, reading, and rooting for the NY Giants. More than anything, Ms Cohen took pleasure in spending time with her beloved daughter, Blakeley Cohen.
Besides her mother and daughter, she leaves behind two siblings, two nephews, and three nieces. She was the devoted wife of the late William Cohen, MD.
A memorial service took place May 18.
