Blue Breeze 3, Blue Crushers 0: The Blue Breeze and the Blue Crushers both fought hard. The Blue Breezeâs relentless offensive attack was led by two goals from Katie Stan and one from Morgan Seras, as well as fine play from Mary Celentano and Gabriella Sadowski. Olivia Buchler, Emma Magazu and Charlotte Branchflower led a stout defensive effort. The Blue Crushers played hard. On offense Shannon Jackson and Madeline Patrick had several breakaways into the opponents territory. The Blue Crushers defense played well with Madison Hintze and Gloria Rowley. In goalie Morgan Melillo did an outstanding job with several amazing saves throughout the game.
Mustangs 3, Wildcats 1: The Mustangsâ Karsen Pirone led the scoring with 2 goals and Holly Ankers added the other with a blast from the box that hit the back of the net for her first score of her career. Aniko Walsh played outstanding in goal with many great saves. Nia Orakwue was solid on defense, while Caroline Tousignant and Kaitlyn King played a strong all-around game setting up the scoring opportunities. For the Wildcats, the offensive attack was led by Rylee Harrell and Colleen Phanuef who all had multiple shots on goal, only to be denied each time by the solid Mustang goaltending. Kaley Meisenheimer scored the lone Wildcat goal. Laura Augenbraun demonstrated strong ball control while playing an all-around strong game. Emma DiNallo and Shauna Tucker led the Wildcatsâ defense, holding the Mustangs scoreless in the first half.
Killer Bees 3, Lightning 0: The Killer Bees were led by goal scorers Katerina Rosen, Jane Shearin and Julia Gerace. Zoe Waller was a wall on âDâ and great all around efforts were turned in by Olivia Steare, Emi Rosenthal, Megahan OâRourke, Nicki Guilherme and Hannah Daly. The Lightning exhibited nice offensive ball movement from Hannah Sepp, Carlie Smith and Sophia Romano, while Madison Del Pozo, Eileen McCleary, Elizabeth Teixeira and Cameron Powers played nice overall defense. Nicole Fisher and Katie Viselli both played outstanding goal in the Lightning cause.
Net Rippers 2, Lightning Strikes 2: The Net Rippers fought for a 2â2 tie against their formidable opponents The Lightning Strikes. Faith OâHara was able to break away to net two for her team. Amanda Conrod, Julia Klein, and Sophia Child were a force to be reckoned with on the field, while Annie Morosky did a stellar job in goal. The Lightning Strikes were led by Mary Sortino who scored both of the teamâs goals. Olivia Cornett played strong at midfield, and Lily Charles played solid defense. The tie was preserved by Olivia Cavaleroâs nimble goaltending.

Dynamites 2, Wilton 1: The U10 Dynamites traveled to foggy Wilton to play their next game. Keeley Kortze scored on her own rebound in the first couple of minutes of the game to give the Dynamites the early lead. Every offensive player for the Dynamites after that had a shot on goal in the first half: Katie Sailer, Lu Hage, Brooke Antous, Alison Kelleher and Rebecca Gavel. The girls had a nice passing game with Lauren Carrino and Audrey Benson in the back keeping the ball away from Grace Corcoran who was in goal. Early in the second half, a long bomb from the Wilton defense rolled into the Dynamites net tying up the game. Grace Corcoran controlled the center of the field on defense. A goal by Alison Kelleher was called back on a questionable call, but the Newtown squad came back fighting. Despite only having one sub the entire game and being down a player for five minutes of play when two went out injured, the team stepped up the pressure on the Wilton keeper. Keeley Kortze scored the gameâs final goal bringing the score to 2-1 and Brooke Antous made a save to seal the win.
Newtown Sparks 7, New Canaan Chelsea 2: The game started off slow in the light drizzle and fog of the early afternoon as the Sparks battled for possession of the ball. Emily Celentano was able to break away for an early goal, putting Newtown on the board. After giving up one goal, Jackie Seras played an outstanding rest of the half with two critical saves holding back New Canaan, while Celentano scored her second goal. Returning to the field after halftime with a 2â1 score, the Sparks were reenergized and dominated the field. The Sparksâ Lauren Adams scored an early goal which was quickly answered by New Canaan. A goal scored off a penalty kick by Gabrielle Reisert motivated the Sparks, and Newtown put on the moves and kept the ball in front of New Canaanâs goal for the remainder of the game. Sparks, Celentano and Adams each scored another goal with the seventh coming from Izzy Mawdsley who was perfectly positioned to boot in a rebound off Carly Swierbut. The Sparksâ Lindsay Merrifield, Kiera Sughrue and Madi Ziperstein offered up great games on defense with Swierbut and Kristen Cirone in the goal the second half. Lauren Adamsâ consistent control and strong footwork stood out on the Sparks offense.
Smurfs 4, American Eagles 1: For the Smurfs, the Vadola sisters provided the scoring with Angela getting one, and Veronica getting a âhat trick.â Solid goal tending by Erin Walsh and Julia Clark, with iron curtain defense lead by Briana Lovely, Lin Vitarbo and Jenna Ehnot proved to be the difference. For the American Eagles, Sarah Simonson had the lone goal supported on a nice assist play by Grace Sholtes. Hana Rosenthal, Izzy Kaiser and Allie Reczek did a nice job moving the ball for the Eagle offense, while Kaysie Fisher, Caroline Viselli and Cathy Hyeon anchored the defense, especially in the second half. Beth Mottola played outstanding net in the first half of the contest.
Funky Socks 3, Twisters 0: Scoring two goals for a career high, Camryn Findley lead the charge, Bella Manfredi added the third goal. Great ball control by Kiernan Kelly and stellar midfield support by Gracie Bertsche. For the Twisters, Heidi Poarch played well at midfield. Colby Troy had a great overall game on both offense and defense. Liz Weingerber kept great pressure on the opponentâs goal.

Westport 6, Panthers 0: The Panthers fell despite strong efforts by the defensive line led by Audrey Sedensky and Diana Kirkman. Kira Kelly and Maria Ringes alternated defending the goal with aggressive field play by both. The offense failed to connect with a goal despite valiant efforts by Alexis Mason and Charli Condon. Isabella Jimenez held strong at midfield while Catherine Shaw and Juliette Grover moved the ball with fine passing. Greta Staubly was sidelined with a spring cold but lent her support throughout the game nonetheless.

Glastonbury 3, Newtown Thunder 0: Newtown played hard in their second State Cup contest, but were defeated by a strong Glastonbury team.
Newtown Thunder 2, Fairfield 0: Newtown bounced back from their State Cup loss with a convincing league victory over previously undefeated and top-ranked Fairfield. Steph Carr and Meghan Doyle were spectacular in goal, producing the second shutout of the season. Defensive stalwarts Lauren Beier and Olivia Caplan were instrumental in keeping the Fairfield offense in check. Midway through the second half, Hailey Conrad was racing down the right sideline with two defenders in hot pursuit, when she stopped on a dime, spun free, and fed a perfect pass to Emily Neave who blasted a shot for a 1-0 Thunder lead. Ten minutes later Conrad was at it again, splitting the Fairfield âDâ as she bolted down field after a long clearing kick from the strong-legged Beier. Reaching the ball in stride, she powered a shot past the goalie for the gameâs final score.
Wilton 4, Dynamite 1: The contentious Wilton team quickly put Newtown on the defensive. Stef Carr came up with big saves in goal with Katie Elkins and Amanda Albanesi worked tirelessly on defense. Cassidy Keller had an outstanding game at midfield and sparked the teamâs offensive efforts. At the end of the first half, Wilton had scored two goals. In the second half, the Newtown offense came out strong. Newtownâs Chloe Rogalin scored on a booming corner kick from Sophia Albano.

Chaos 4, Swat 2: Chaos had goals by Ashley Marks and Jesse Sailer scoring two each. Marksâ first goal found the back of the neck untouched from a corner kick. Sierra Mather provided the lone assist. Alex Dittrich and Allie Indelicato had great games in goal. Marissa Liberante and Emma Brantl provided strong midfield and offensive support.
Rockets 4, Twisters 0: For the Rockets, goals were scored by Hannah Booth, Kenzie Casey, Emily Jerris and Cate Haggerty. Solid overall performances were turned in by Lexy Badick and Emma Schmid-Tharnish. For the Twisters, Stephanie Devaney demonstrated effective all-around play as striker. Savannah Davidow and Arianna Della Corte were strong in the midfield, with solid defense play by Mary Kate Malin. Rachael DiCristina was strong in her role as goaltender.
Twisters 1, Rockets 1: For the Twisters, one goal was scored by Caitlin Filiato. Tonya Tucker and Lindsey Gallagher were strong in the midfield with solid defense play by Anna Pinckney and Anita Luxkaranayagam. Taylor Clomiro was strong in her role as goaltender. For the Rockets, Hannah Booth scored the lone goal on a penalty kick. Kelly Coughlin played a rugged game on defense and Sierra Toomey and Brianna Alves had good games overall.

Nighthawks 5 â Warriors 2: Two goals each by Jack Petersen and Duncan OâLeary helped the Nighthawks take the lead over the Warriors. Tanner Trede chipped in with the last Nighthawk goal. Standout defenders for the Nighthawks included Richard Qi, Jake Mailloux, Colin Zhang and Andrew Bazuro. Jake Anthony was outstanding in goal coming up with multiple saves. The Warriors came up short despite a solid team effort on offense especially in the fourth quarter. Scoring early for the Warriors was Johnathan Radatovich on an unassisted goal and Charlie Graven netted the teams second goal late in the game. Steven Vournazos led the attack with several nice assists for shots on goal.
Black Sculls 4, Team Four 2: With the rain coming down and only one substitute, Jake Holme had three near misses to keep the pressure against an undefeated opponent. Eric Vine had excellent plays in both offense and defense by keeping the ball on the opponents side. Sean OâSullivan saved a goal by clearing the ball out. After being down 2-1, Hayden Miller just missed the right post and came back with a shared goal (2 feet are better than 1) with Jack Stanton in the last quarter. Jack Stanton had a second goal with assist from JP Ford. Aidan Hall worked hard with great passes and an assist. JP Ford completed two unassisted goals supported by Dustin Patterson in the backfield before the game ended with a very tired team.
U10
Stamford 6, Vipers 1: The Vipers faced their toughest opponents to date on Sunday against #1 ranked Stamford. With heads held high and moral strong, the Vipers took the loss in stride. The coach switched up several positions for the boys which resulted in many surprises on the pitch. Danny Schreiber as midi displayed great ball control and produced numerous drives to goal. With superior footwork and speed strikers Henry Vaughan and Bryce Bissit had multiple breaks to the net, only to be met by Stamfordâs impenetrable defense. Adam Farley mastered center mid by constantly supporting both the offense and defense. Midi Travis Huzinasâ stellar hustle and determination helped keep the teamâs spirits high. Well into the second half, Dylan Sock was able to motor through Stamfordâs solid defense to score. CJ Trivers was outstanding in the goal despite the loss.
Ridgefield 3, Strikers 1: Although the first half got off to a slow start for Newtown, Brian Montoya played his usual strong defense, clearing the ball well away from the Newtown goal. Most of the shots taken by Ridgefield were stopped by newcomer Thomas Hartley, who showed great goaltending skills. Colin Dunn had some nice shots on their goal, forcing the defense to scramble, while Shea Talbotâs aggressive play helped keep the ball moving in the right direction. Cory Furrier made some nice passes and helped keep the momentum going in the Ridgefield end. The second half was stronger for Newtown as Tyler Dickinson gave a nice assist to Colin Dunn who was able to notch up a goal for Newtown. Shea Talbot (previous gameâs MVP) had nice shots after hustling the ball through the midfield. Miles Martiska played solid defense, along with Isaac Silverman and Sean Connor, who made a great slide tackle to prevent a clear shot on goal. The team put together many nice plays, allowing Harvey Long to also get several solid shots on goal.
Redding 4, Strikers 2: Solid work on defense in front of our goal by Aiden Schmid made the Redding team work hard to try and get through. Sean Connor also made it difficult for the opposition. Isaac Silverman again kept the opposing forwards at bay. Tyler Dickinson scored in the first half, after doggedly getting his own rebounds. Thomas Hartley showing great goaltending skills, kept Redding scoreless most of the half. The second half gave Miles Martiska a chance to goal tend, making many saves against some tough opposition. Harvey Long helped keep the offensive pressure on Redding throughout the game. Cory Furrier made key plays turning the ball back towards the Redding goal. A late, left-footed goal by Colin Dunn helped keep the game close, but they were unable to even the score. The coach has complimented them on their passing and solid play, knowing that with good teamwork and shooting, the goals will come.
Flying Squirrels 7, Team Three 1: Outstanding teamwork and passing led to two goals, each from Robert DiSibio and Nick Weiland, and one goal each from Eric Moore, Ryan Nolan and Michael Arther. Team Threeâs Tanner Trede scored a beautiful volley.
