A Simple Request

To the Editor:

Too often as I try to access a handicapped parking space with my van, I encounter shopping carts that have been left by customers who have finished with their business in the store that day.

Before I was in this wheelchair, I was “guilty” of this same oversight. However, anyone who needs a handicapped parking space...usually needs all of the additional space that is allotted. Many use walkers, canes, wheelchairs, or other assisted devices to aid them in getting in and out of their vehicle.

When carts are left in those spaces it is often impossible for a handicapped individual to utilize that space. I am advocating for all of those who need easy access, please don’t leave your shopping carts in the handicapped spaces just because they are open spots. It something we need in order to be able to gain access to a store.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and consideration in “doing the next right thing.”

Blessings,

Fran Hickman
