7 Year Old Division:

Landscaping Unlimited Green Gators vs Art and Frame of Danbury Killer Bees: Walker Previdi led the Gators offensive attack with two doubles and a single. His double in the second inning went clear over center field. Both Eli Martiska and Eric Gay had a clutch singles in the second. The Gators also played well defensively. David Crumb and Benjamin Ochs made two great stops each in the outfield, holding their opponents to singles in all four cases. Drew Poseno had a great scoop on the pitcher’s mound and made a clean throw to first base to get the out. The Killer Bees’ potent offense was jump started by Sean O’Sullivan’s leadoff double to start the game. Hayden Miller, Ryan Heran, and Matt Pietrorazio continued the hitting display with doubles of their own. Aiden Gardner and Adam Zibluk also contributed on offense with several well hit balls for base hits. The Killer Bees also showed their defensive skill by recording many outs throughout the game. Wiley Harris, Liam O’Sullivan, and Zachary Katsuleres anchored the team defense with impressive plays in the field. The highlight of the day was turned in by Hayden Miller, who recorded an inning ending, unassisted double play at first base.

Claris Construction Flaming Oranges vs Spire: The Flaming Oranges played a great game on Saturday and were led by the solid hitting of Juan Mendez, Jake Mailloux, Vinny Wilson, and Jack Petersen with two doubles. George Sandercox, Travis McClay, and Noah Clark all played outstanding defense in the field.

Apex Glass vs Team Five: The entire batting order hit well this week for Apex Glass, led by Edwin Tout (2 runs) and Andrew McMahon (double) at the top of the order. Matthew McMahon and Nick Sortino each did a strong job behind the plate catching their first game this year and were both on base with hits several times. Defensive stars included Michael Spanedda at third base/shortstop and Matt Sortino at first base, who both made several plays to record outs in addition to being on-base multiple times. Ryan McMahon, Owen Browne, and Teddy Petit each contributed with several hits and played solid defense as well.

Ingersoll Auto 8, Newtown Pizza Palace 2: Adam Bergeron, Graham Dowd, and Joe Palanzo pitched well, while the duo of Kenny Malin and Chris Mok paced the offense. Tess Davenport called up earlier in the day from triple A had a hit in the winning cause. Alex Janiak and Conor McNerney led the Pizzaman in defeat

Mandy Beckett Realtor 10, MSR Music 3: Justin Woodard, Cameron Champagne, and Jeff Klein were leaders at the plate, while Dylan Champagne and Adam Beckett baffled the musicmen.

Grimes Times 9, Stratton Faxon 6: Connor Barrett cleared the scoreboard with his second career blast, a 300-foot shot for sure, while rookie James Clifford tore the ball up with 2 RBI. Eric Hrabczak won his second game of the year with flawless pitching and Trevor Barrett made his first appearance of the year as a defensive replacement in left field. Ryan Kost, Chris Guarna, and Chris Daubert hit well for the Red Sox of Stratton, and Patrick Godino pitched superb. Conor Faxon made his first appearance of the year also showing what hustle is all about.

Begany Design 5, Attorney Buzzi 4: A nail-biter right to the end in this seesaw battle. Max McCleary hit well along with Tim Cervera, while Ethan Aug and Marc Lasorsa played well in defeat for the lawyers.

U14/15

Newtown Mobil 1 Lube Express 6, Danbury Excel 4: Mobil 1 Lube won its first game of the season in a well-played 6-4 victory over Danbury. Danbury took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after its leadoff batter reached first base on an error and came around to score. Newtown answered right back in the bottom of the first with a run of its own. Garrison Buzzanca led off the inning with a sharp single, one of his three hits on the day, and came around to score on a two out, RBI single by Tim McGrath. Newtown went up by a run in the second inning on some heads-up base running by Brandon O’Sullivan. With two outs, and a runner on first and third, O’Sullivan broke for second base. Danbury attempted an inning-ending throw-down to second, but O’Sullivan purposely got in a rundown long enough for the runner on third to score. Danbury tied the game at 2 in the fourth inning, but the Newtown squad answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jim Parker and Julian Dunn both reached base on singles, with Parker eventually scoring on a passed ball. David Vallerie then walked and promptly stole second base, setting up Jake Simonson’s clutch, two out, two strike, two RBI single to left field. Newtown added another run in the fifth to hold off the visitors from Danbury by the final score of 6-4. Julian Dunn picked up the win on the mound, going five innings and only surrendering three hits. Harry Depuy earned the save by pitching the last two innings. Jim Parker had an excellent game, going 3 for 3, with a run scored and one RBI.

Cal Ripken 10-year-old baseball league highlights from this past week are as follows:

Mobil 1 Lube Express Blue Devils Blue Devils 7, Sugar Hill Auto Orange Crush 6: The Mobil 1 Lube Express Blue Devils won a very close game against the Sugar Hill Auto Orange Crush on May 11. For the Blue Devils, Tess Davenport and David Kohler pitched two solid innings, Brooks Petershack and Dominic Scalzo each pitched one. William Kraus, Brooks Petershack, Josh Dunn, and Tess Davenport led the hitting. For Sugar Hill Auto’s Orange Crush, Jack Miller pitched two shutout innings, Sammy Kapur and Doug Carriero also pitched a solid game. The offense was led by excellent hitting from Thomas Usher, Simon Preston, Jake Holman, and Eric Moore.

Monro Muffler & Brake 9, Mobil 1 Lube Express Blue Devils 2: Monro Muffler & Brake had strong pitching from Shane Demers, Luke Mellilo, and Jimmy Davies and superb defense led by Nick Stowell. At the plate, triples from Robbie Morill and Jimmy Davies and clutch hits by Trevor Bottom and Kyle Cascone led the offensive charge. The Blue Devils had solid pitching from Tess Davenport and a solo home run from William Kraus, his first ever in baseball.

Ferris Acres Creamery Red Gorillas 6, Sugar Hill Auto Orange Crush 5: The Ferris Acres Red Gorillas and Sugar Hill Auto Orange Crush played a great defensive game, with the Red Gorillas coming out on top 6-5 avenging an earlier loss to the Orange Crush. Late in the game both teams executed perfect outfield relays throwing players out at home. Jake Holman applied the tag for the Orange Crush in the fifth that stopped a run from scoring and Harry Lucas made the play for the Gorillas in the sixth. The Gorillas were led by great defense from Aidan Ford and Jeremy Fisher, Jamey Hobar’s double, four stolen bases from Connor Dinallo, and two hits from Harry Lucas; one being the walk-off game winning single. The Orange Crush’s offense was led by Jack Miller, Eric Moore, and Travis Huzina. Pitching well for the Crush were Sammy Kapur, Eric Moore, and Simon Preston. Jack Miller also had an inside-the-park home run. This was the second time in three days the teams met, with the prior game resulting in a 15-1 victory for the Sugar Hill Auto Orange Crush.

Ingersoll Auto of Danbury Black Knights 14, Ferro Financial Green Machine 6: The bats finally came alive for the Ingersoll Auto of Danbury Black Knights on Saturday morning. The offense was led by some great hitting from James Heran, Robert Murray, Mason Fiorella, Jeremy Larkin, and James Clifford. On defense, Dillion Larkin pitch two great innings with Matt Brantl providing a spectacular catch in left field to save a couple of runs. Matt Sadowski, Jack McDonbell, and Christoph Berg each provided some solid infield to help the Black Knights earn their first victory on the season. The Ferro Financial Green Machine broke out early for a 4-1 lead with Bobby Ward blasting a two-run single with two outs. Sean McCleary added an RBI single in the second. Michael Narducci plated two more for the Machine with a two-out double in the fourth, scoring two. Eli Holmes displayed his glove skills at third as did Luke Loudon behind the plate and Brandon Giglio at second.
