Senior Boys

Newtown Gold 13, Stratford A 0 – Andrew Hyland made seven saves and got the shutout for Newtown as he and defenders John Grimaldi, Kyle McNamara, John Aminti, Chris Murphy, and Zach Conger made for an impenetrable wall. Henry Sims, Kyle O’Connor, and Kenton Lord provided tough play from their midfield positions in support of the total team effort on defense. Christian Beitel scored three goals while Mack Fuller, Kevin Canavan, Tim Wheeler and Brian Reszoly scored two apiece. Matt Hill and Max Paynter also scored.

Newtown Blue 12, Bethel 2 – Tim Dalton scored three goals, Harrison Gillis scored twice, and Peter Walsh had one goal and one assist to lead Blue to the win. Clarence Cheung played a great game between the pipes, making eight saves and distributing several excellent clearing passes. Defenders Mike Locorotondo, Dylan Kelleher, Nick Pieretti, and Jake Phenix delivered a swarming style of hard-hitting, high intensity defense that kept Bethel out of synch the entire game. Aaron Caldwell, Tyler Davenport, Colby Gleacher, Kevin Read and Jacob Phenix also scored.

Newtown White 5, Stratford B 1 – Dylan Heubner scored a goal and had two assists, Cameron Gehrman had two goals, and Andrew Matsis made nine saves in the Newtown win. Kurt Nacewicz and Jamie Bowers also scored. Andrew Golankiewicz scooped seven ground balls.

New Fairfield Red 5, Newtown C 3 – Dan Clement, Rob Albino and Mike Schenck provided the scoring for Newtown in a loss to New Fairfield. Tim Arnone was spectacular in goal, making 10 saves. Jon Cairns and Tom Merrifield anchored the defense as Chris Detrick, Adam Buccino and Mike Bunger controlled the midfield and picked up 14 ground balls.

Senior Girls

Newtown Gold 11, Northhampton (Mass.) 2; Newtown Gold 8, Longmeadow (Mass.) 1; Newtown Gold 3, South Hadley (Mass.) 1; Newtown Gold 11, Westfield (Mass.) 1 – The Newtown Senior Girls Gold team competed in the Longmeadow Jamboree in Longmeadow, MA over the weekend and swept the competition. Jackie Isabella and Haley Keane were outstanding as goaltenders while Annie Fletcher, Hannah Glasrud, Molly Murtha, Steph Suhoza and Keegan Frobey led the defense. The offensive attack was potent as usual led by Meg Kelly, Betsy Vendel, Meghan Bridges, Lisa Vendel and Kara Brown. Brittany Wiberg, Devon Ferris and Nicole Waterhouse had great field games continuously out hustling the opponent for ground balls.

Newtown Gold 15, Southbury 0 – Betsy Vendel (3 goals) Jackie Isabella (2) Meghan Bridges (2) Lisa Vendel (2) Kara Brown (2) Meg Kelly (1) Steph Suhoza (1) Haley Keane (1) and Devon Ferris (1) powered the offense. Hannah Glasrud, Molly Murtha, Steph Suhoza and Annie Fletcher led the D.

Newtown Blue 16, Danbury 5 – Bryanne Baye scored four goals and had two assists, Sam Dinnan scored two goals, and Marnie Thompson and Kaley Kruger each had a goal and two assists to lead the Senior Blue Girls. Meredith Laperch scored a goal and had an assist as Bridget Fenerty scored a goal and led all players with five ground balls. Michelle Siladi and Kat Donohue each had an assist. Kaitlin Brophy – up from the Junior squad – scored three goals and recording one assist. Megan Carney, Maddie Keane and Jillian Jagoe all scored.

Junior Boys

Newtown Blue 6, Bethel 4 – Matt Vavrek and Brendan McNamara each scored two goals and assisted on another to lead Blue to the win. Colin Morris had a key assist as Michael Lord and Will Fletcher each scored once. Louis Rabb made 11 saves in the cage as Dan Sclafani helped lead the defense as James Radcliffe and Cory Fisher supported the offense.

Newtown Blue 6, Stratford B 2 – Cory Fisher scored two goals and Brendan McNamara scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead Blue to the win. Louis Raab made 11 saves in the cage and Dan Sclafani played well on D. Michael Lord, Will Fletcher and Matt Vavrek also scored as Robin Middlebrook provided an assist.

Newtown Gold 15, Brookfield Blue 0 – Lewis Thompson had two goals and five assists and CJ Ryan scored three goals to lead Newtown. Brandon Body and Colby Summerlin combined to make eight saves and defenders Max Nacewicz, Will Northrop, Jeremy Schaniel and Justin Brophy helped Newtown to their second straight shutout. Ryan Korth, Colby Summerlin, Kyle Vignone, Evan Gilchrist, Willie Provey, Connor Byrne, Justin Brophy, Brandon Body also scored and Trey Trudell had nine ground balls.

Newtown Gold 5, Weston Blue 1 – Ryan Korth had a goal and an assist and Lewis Thompson had two assists as Newtown prevailed in a very physical matchup with Weston. Evan Gilchrist, Kyle Vignone, CJ Ryan and Connor Byrne also scored as Max Nacewicz, Jeremy Schaniel, Will Northrop, Justin Brophy, and Mike Zaccaro shined on defense.

Newtown Gold 6, Amity 5 – Lewis Thompson’s second goal of the game with fifteen seconds left in sudden-death overtime capped a thrilling Newtown victory at Treadwell Park on Saturday. Kyle Vignone had two goals and CJ Ryan had two goals and the winning assist. Trey Trudell scooped nine ground balls as goalkeeper Brandon Body and defensemen Will Northrop, Jeremy Schaniel, Max Nacewicz and Justin Brophy put up great efforts.

Girls 5/6

Newtown Blue 4, Albany A 2; Newtown Blue 9, North Hampton 1 – The Newtown Girls 5/6 Blue team traveled to Massachussetts to participate in a Jamboree. Kaitlyn VosWinkel led the offense with six goals for the day while Katie Canavan (5), Megan Knox (1), Sarah Attanasio (1) and Ali Korchman (1) also scored. Alex Klein and Rachael Hyland each had an assist. Meredith Bridges, Kelley Gaston, Meaghan Loose, Kyra Middeleer and Jillian Jagoe led the D while Katelyn Kean, Andrea Sayegh, Molly Berning, Casey Kearns, Nicole Davis and Sabrina Lumpuy were strong in the ground ball department.

Newtown Gold 14, New Fairfield 9 – Kaitlin Brophy scored six goals and Maddy Keane added five to lead the Gold to the win. Meaghan Carney and Molly Mahony scored their first goals of the year. Natalie Clark also scored. Emma Glasrud made seven saves in the cage as Taylor Cutolo, Maggie Atkinson, Erin Dlouhy, Elizabeth Eiseman, Anna Hodge, and Mary Oliver played well.

IN-TOWN

Senior Boys

Brown 7, Harvard 5 – Connor McNamara scored three goals to lead the Bears. Mack Fuller had two goals, and Andrew Golankiewicz and C.J. Donahue each scored a goal. Zach Conger and Jacob Dauz had two assists, and Harrison Gillis and AJ Ritchie each had an assist. For Harvard, Rob Albino and Ben Mahony each had one goal and one assist. Goals were scored by Rocco Guaragno, Kyle O’Conner, and Ben Collins. Cameron Gehrman had one assist for the Crimson.

Princeton 12, Dartmouth 9 – John Grimaldi had three goals and four assists for the Tigers. Tom Gilbert had three goals, Conor Collier had two goals and one assist, and Andrew Hyland had two goals and two assists. Kevin Read and Michael Locorotondo each had a goal. For Dartmouth, Jaime Vavrek had three goals and four assists, and Max Paynter scored three goals. Jack Mackay, Tyler Davenport, and Matt Hill each scored goals.

Yale 15, Cornell 11 – Kevin Canavan scored six goals and had two assists for the Eli. Colby Gleacher scored three goals, John Aminti scored a goal and had two assists, Chris Detrick and Christian Beitel each scored one goal and had one assist, and Michael Shevlin, Dylan Heubner, and Jamie Walsh each had a goal. For the Big Red, the Reszoly brothers (Tyler and Brian), each had four goals and two assists to lead Cornell. Kevin Brown and Michael Mouchantat each had a goal and an assist, and individual goals were scored by Henry Sims, Brandon Mulligan, and Ryan Diluoffo.

Junior Boys

North Carolina 12, Duke 11 (OT) – CJ Ryan scored four goals and John Johnson dished off three assists to lead North Carolina over Duke in overtime. Joe Pieretti and Roland Stephen had two goals apiece, Chris Arnone had a goal and an assist, Paolo Moscvici, Josh Gilbert, and Michael Lord contributed single goals. Sean Maher and Justin Brophy led Duke with three goals each with help from Mike Zaccaro with two goals and an assist, Justin Spath with two goals, James Radcliffe with a goal and Matt Vavrek with an assist.

Maryland 10, Virginia 8 – Colby Summerlin scored six goals and Tom DiLuoffo chipped in with two for the Terps in the win over the Wahoos. Scott Wexler and Nick MacKay both dished off assists, and Matt Grace and Stefan Hennessey scored goals. Trey Trudell led Virginia with four goals and an assist and got help from Jordan Simonds, Ted Benoit, Charlie Feltch, and Tom Murphy with single goals.

Syracuse 10, Georgetown 6 – Will Northrop had four goals and an assist, Kevin Dennis scored twice, and Kyle Vignone had a goal and an assist to lead the Orangemen over the Hoyas. Matt Sharpe added a goal and an assist, David Kreshpan and Connor Howell each scored. Michael Ownes led the Hoyas with two goals. Lewis Thompson scored a goal and notched three assists, Brendan McNamara scored and had an assist, and Evan Gilchrist contributed a goal. Corey Fisher and Thompson combined to stop 18 shots between the pipes.
