Mailbox Mischief

Sometime on May 7 or 8, someone vandalized a cluster of mailboxes on Cedarhurst Trail, which are used by members of the private Cedarhurst Trail Association, police report. Cedarhurst Trail is a dead-end street in the Cedarhurst section, near Lake Zoar.

Also, two floodlight lamps were stolen from the area. Police are investigating the vandalism and theft. They ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them at 426-5841.

Bethel Man

On May 13, police served an arrest warrant against Russell Wallace, 42, of Bethel, charging him with failure to respond to a violation for not responding to a court summons that he was issued on March 5.

Police additionally charged Wallace with failure to drive to the right, failure to renew a vehicle registration, and failure to have automotive insurance. Those motor vehicle charges also stem from the March 5 incident on Main Street, police said.

After posting $500 bail, police released Wallace for an upcoming appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Sandy Hook Center

On May 14, motorist Laurie Brautigam, 41, of 63 Charter Ridge Road was driving a 2001 Subaru Outback eastward on Church Hill Road and was approaching Church Hill Road’s intersection with Washington Avenue, police said.

The Subaru then started to pass on the right an eastbound 1999 Jeep Wrangler driven by Teresa Hawley, 50, of Washington, police said.

But the Jeep then began making a right turn at 100-102 Church Hill Road, resulting in the Subaru striking the Jeep, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Brautigam a written warning for passing on the right.

Sugar Street

On the morning of May 13, eastbound motorist Renee Jansen, 29, of 190 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 1995 Ford sport-utility vehicle eastward near 18 Sugar Street, struck the rear end of an eastbound 1998 Volvo 740 station wagon driven by June Frost, 43, of 30 Brookwood Drive, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Jansen a violation for following too closely and failure to have automotive insurance.

Key Rock Road

Motorist Ingrid Borgquist, 44, of 134 South Main Street was driving a 1999 Nissan Altima westward near 12 Key Rock Road about 3 am May 14, when the vehicle went off the westbound road shoulder and struck a utility pole, police said.

Police said Borgquist was not injured. Police charged her with making an improper turn, driving while under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police released Borgquist on a promise to appear in court on May 26.

Warrant

After investigating a one-vehicle accident that occurred on Church Hill Road earlier this year, police charged motorist Emily Svanda, 36, of 4 Nettleton Avenue on May 13 with failure to drive in the established lane, driving without a license, and driving without automotive insurance, police said. Police released Svanda on a promise to appear in court on May 27.

South Main

On May 12, motorist Lee Kasseris, 55, of Southbury, who was driving a 2004 Hyundai Sonata southward near 43 South Main Street, stopped for traffic and was struck from behind by southbound motorist Dina Batista, 32, of Danbury, who was driving a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said.

Kasseris reported pain, but refused medical attention, police said.

Police issued Batista an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and driving without a license.

I-84 DUI

State police said they observed motorist William Lehning, 41, of Woodbury driving 80 miles per hour in a 65-mph zone on eastbound Interstate 84, between Exits 9 and 10, about 7:30 pm May 14, so they stopped him to investigate.

State police charged Lehning with driving under the influence, speeding, and driving while under suspension.

After posting $2,500 bail, police released Lehning for a May 23 court appearance.

Four Charges

Police said they served an arrest warrant against Larry Allen Bailey, 55, of  1 Carol Anne Drive on the evening of May 16, lodging four counts against him.

Police said they charged Bailey with two counts of third degree larceny and with two counts of second degree forgery. All four charges are felonies.

Police alleged that in August 2004, Bailey forged and cashed two checks. Third degree larceny involves the theft of between $1,000 and $5,000.

After processing the arrest, police released Bailey on a written promise to appear May 20 in Danbury Superior Court for arraignment.

Toddy Hill Road

Police said they stopped motorist Roger Stuart, 59, of 16-A Little Brook Lane for driving 54 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone on Toddy Hill Road about 8:15 pm May 17.

On investigating, police charged Stuart with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving while under suspension.

After posting $250 bail, police released Stuart for a June 2 court appearance.

Backhoe

About 4:20 pm May 17, police spotted Brian Thibodeau, 40, of Torrington driving an unregistered backhoe northward on Main Street, near the police station, so they pulled him over.

On investigating, police charged Thibodeau with driving an unregistered motor vehicle and with driving with a suspended license.

After posting $500 bail, police released Thibodeau for a June 7 court appearance.

Pontiac Vs Nissan

At about 9:20 pm May 14, motorist Jonathan Zebrowski, 19, of Redding was driving a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am eastward on Palestine Road, as motorist Brett Eastman, 18, of 164 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima westward on Platts Hill Road, police said.

The Pontiac then entered the intersection of the two roads and collided with the Nissan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Zebrowski a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Two-Car Collision

Police report a two-car accident in front of 66 Church Hill Road about 3:18 pm May 14.

Westbound Motorist Drew Berner, 22, of Caldwell, N.J., who was driving a 2004 Saturn Ion, attempted to make a left turn into the driveway at 66 Church Hill Road, when he collided with eastbound motorist Shelby Miller, 61, of Redding, who was driving a 2002 Acura 3.2-TL, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Berner a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Volvo Vs Ford

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of South Main Street and Elm Drive about 11:23 am May 14.

The accident involved motorist Stephen Petersen, 19, of 20 Cannon Drive, who was driving a 2002 Volvo S-80 sedan, and motorist Paul Peterson, 19, of 7 Bridge End Farm Lane, who was driving a 1995 Ford Taurus, police said.

Paul Peterson, who was driving the Ford, was injured in the accident and was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said.

Police issued Stephen Petersen, who was driving the Volvo, an infraction ticket for driving an unreasonable distance apart.

Moving Violations

Police report they stopped motorist Cheryl Pearlman, 52, of Easton for not displaying a front marker plate while driving on Route 25 about 9:46 am May 18.

On investigating, police charged Pearlman with failure to display a marker plate and driving with a suspended license.

Police released Pearlman on a promise to appear June 1 in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant

Police said they served an arrest warrant against David Kaza, 23, of 4 Clearview Drive on May 18, charging him with failure to appear in court. Police said they additionally charged Kaza with driving under the influence, driving while under suspension, and making a restricted turn.

The charges stem from a March 17 motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way.

Police held Kaza on $5,000 bail for a court appearance on May 19.

DUI Charge

Police said they received telephone calls from motorists about 2 am May 19 informing them that a driver who was heading northward on South Main Street was driving erratically.

Police said they found the vehicle and stopped it on South Main Street near Elm Drive to investigate.

Police said they gave driver Richard M. Rahmlow, 48, of 27 Bridge End Farm Lane field sobriety tests. Police charged Rahmlow with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.

Police released Rahmlow on $50 bail for a June 2 court appearance.

Two Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Heather Mastroianni, 22, of 6 Drummers Lane on May 17 and charged her with speeding and with driving while under suspension. Police released Mastroianni on a written promise to appear June 2 in Danbury Superior Court.
