Carl B. Bergquist

Carl B. Bergquist, 76, husband of Joan (Auleta) Bergquist of Glover Avenue died on May 16 in Danbury Hospital.

He was born in Orange, N.J., on September 20, 1928, a son of the late Gustav and Hilda (Holstrom) Bergquist. Mr Bergquist was raised and educated in Point Pleasant, N.J., and served in the US Army Signal Corps from 1946 to 1948.

Mr Bergquist had a long career with SNET and over the years held positions of increasing responsibilities. He retired in 1990 as a supervisor of technicians at the Meriden office.

A resident of Newtown for 42 years, Mr Bergquist served on the first Newtown Legislative Council, elected in 1975. He was a longtime member of Newtown Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. He was also a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church and was a member of Virgilius Council #185, Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Carl B. Bergquist, Jr, and John Bergquist, both of Newtown; a daughter, Pamela Bergquist of Boston, Mass.; three brothers, Richard and Leonard of Point Pleasant and Kenneth of Florida; a sister Dorothy of New Jersey. He is also survived by three grandsons, Carl Bergquist, III, Matthew Bergquist, and David Bergquist.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20, at 10 am, from Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, and at 10:30 am in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery. Calling hours at Honan Funeral Home were scheduled for Thursday from 5 to 8 pm.
