A Wonderful Walking Tour
A Wonderful Walking Tour
To the Editor:
On Saturday May 14, the Newtown Historical Society hosted a walking tour of the Newtown Village Cemetery located on Elm Drive. The tour entitled âNewtown Notables: Gone But Not Forgottenâ was most enlightening and pleasant. Our town has such a wonderful history dating back to 1708 when the Colonial Assembly empowered 36 of our fellow citizens to lay out a newly recognized town north of Stratford.
The tour of the Village Cemetery brought to life the lives and impacts of many very famous settlers and residents of Newtown such as Ezra Johnson, Judge William Edmond, Mary Elizabeth Hawley, and others, played by their âghostsâ dressed in period costumes and speaking in the first person. The event was very professionally done and most enjoyable. Many have contributed to this very successful tour under the umbrella of the Newtown Historical Society. Kudos to all of you for a wonderful walking tour.
