Theodore A. Braun, 85, husband of Josephine (Mescal) Braun of Sugar Street, Newtown, died May 11 at his home. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 2, 1920, a son of Anthony and Hilda C. (Peterson) Braun.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Mr Braun is survived by his six children and their spouses, Dr Kevin and Phyllis Braun of Newtown, Claire and Michael Hughes of Sandy Hook, Timothy and Jessica Braun of Sandy Hook, John and Patricia Braun of Glen Mills, Penn., Thomas and Deirdre Braun of Woodbury, and James and Maria Braun of Southbury; 12 grandchildren, Teresa Braun, Zachary Braun, Ryan Braun, Jessica Braun, Sean Hughes, Erin Hughes, Melissa Braun, Eric Braun, Steven Braun, Gary Braun, Andrew Braun, and David Braun, also survive him.
Mr Braun was raised in Malverne, Long Island, N.Y., and summered in Sandy Hook with his aunts and uncles during the 1930s. He graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn as a machinist. During World War II, Mr Braun served a tour of duty in the US Navy Blimp Corps in South America.
For more than 25 years, Mr Braun was owner and operator of school bus No. 1 for the Newtown Board of Education until his retirement. He also retired from the Newtown Savings Bank as the director of maintenance and buildings. Mr Braun was the sexton of the Newtown Village Cemetery for many years. He was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church, where he also served as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He previously served as a driver for the Newtown Ambulance Association.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 15 in St Rose of Lima Church. Interment followed in Newtown Village Cemetery.
