To the Editor:

Last week was set aside as National PTA Teacher Appreciation Week to focus attention on the many outstanding educators whose work deserves applause.  Middle Gate School PTA honored our wonderful teachers and staff during the week with many special surprises and activities.

I would like to thank the many parents, students and room parents for the overwhelming support they gave to give our teachers the status and recognition they so genuinely deserve.  Americans are considered to be among the best-educated citizens in the world.  And for that, we have our teachers to thank.

We received many generous donations from local merchants who so graciously gave to help make our Teacher Appreciation Week so special.  Thank you to the following businesses: Super Stop & Shop, Grand Union, Big Y, Stew Leonard’s, Teacher-Parent Store, Avance Esthetiques, Joy’s Hallmark, Lexington Gardens, Newtown Florist, Leo’s Breakfast and Lunch, Olde Newtown Tavern, Dick Blick Art Supplies, Newtown Car Wash, Mona Lisa Restaurant and Ricci’s Salon.

Your spirit of giving to the teachers of Newtown sends us all an important message and example of generosity and kindness.

The efforts of every one generated much happiness throughout the school and community.  Thank you all again for your help to pay tribute to our school educators.
