Police Traffic Enforcement Project Continues

Police this week reported that they are continuing their selective traffic enforcement program designed to stop traffic violations involving speeding, distracted driving, and seat belt and child restraint laws.

The enforcement project is intended to reduce motor vehicle accidents, speeding, and aggressive driving.

On May 12, police conducted enforcement on Hanover Road, Riverside Road, and Glen Road. The violations included 11 written warning for traveling fast, three infractions for traveling fast, and two written warnings for automotive equipment violations.

On May 6, the enforcement project focused on Main Street and Wasserman Way. The enforcement included 15 written warnings for equipment violations, two written warnings for improper turns, and two infractions for seat belt violations.

On April 23, police conducted the enforcement project on Currituck Road, Route 302, Hanover Road, and Swamp Road. Violations issued included eight infractions for traveling fast, eight written warnings for traveling fast, one infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle, and one arrest for marijuana possession, driving while under suspension, and traveling fast.

On April 20, police focused their enforcement on Queen Street, Toddy Hill Road, and Swamp Road. Violations included five infractions for traveling fast, nine written warnings for equipment violations, and one arrest for possession of a stolen coin telephone, possession of burglary tools, and several motor vehicle violations.

Police Lieutenant George Sinko said the traffic enforcement project will continue during the coming month, with police seeking motorists who commit similar violations.
