Mr & Mrs Sean Delehanty

Amy and Geoffrey Dent of Newtown gave their daughter, Marissa Dent, into marriage on Saturday, April 26, to Sean Everett Delehanty. The bride and groom are both residents of London, but celebrated their marriage ceremony and reception with family and friends in New York City.

The ceremony took place at Grace Church, with the Reverend Nancy Gossling, formerly of Newtown, and the Reverend J. Donald Waring both officiating.

A reception followed at The Metropolitan Club, also in the city.

For her wedding day, Marissa wore a custom strapless Luci DeBella deep cream-colored drop waist silk charmeuse sheath, heavily adorned with contrasting vintage beading on a lace bodice, and finished with a semichapel train. Her veil was semichapel length, illusion trimmed with pearl encrusted lace from her mother’s wedding gown. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of ivy and miniature cream-colored cymbidium orchids, touched with pink and green.

Maid of honor was sister of the bride Christina Dent of Greenwich. She wore a midnight blue taffeta A-line strapless Vera Wang gown draped in bobbinette with a fishtail train. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of pink and white sweet peas.

The bridesmaids were Melissa Araya Avanzato, formerly of Sandy Hook, now of New York City; Melissa Blakeley, San Francisco; Jennifer Brandley, Washington, D.C.; Emily Fries Elder, formerly of Sandy Hook, now of New York City; Kristine Herrell, Wynnewood, Penn.; Anne Petersen, Arlington, Va.; Rabia Saeed, New York City; and Amanda Spetzler, San Francisco.

They wore Vera Wang A-line or Empire satin belted midnight blue taffeta strapless gowns draped in bonninette, and they also carried hand-tied bouquets of pink and white sweet peas.

The best man was Ryan Delehanty of London, a brother of the groom. Ushers were Adam Carson, New York City; Colin Delehanty, also a brother of the groom, of Burlingame, Calif.; Matthew Heffernan, San Francisco; Carter Helm, San Mateo, Calif.; and Brian Kmet, New York City.

Sean is the son of Mary Lee and Brian Delehanty of Burlingame, Calif.

He is a graduate of Duke University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a bachelor’s in economics. He is a principal with Silver Lake Partners, a private equity investment firm.

Marissa is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce, and also of Harvard University School of Business, where she earned her master’s. She is a consultant for Bain & Company.

Following their wedding trip to Bali, Indonesia; Thailand and Cambodia, the Delehantys will return to their home in London.
