Sacred Heart University Commencement Speakers

FAIRFIELD –– Theodore S. Sergi, commissioner of education for the State of Connecticut, will speak at the Sacred Heart University Graduate Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 17, at 1 pm, at the Campus Field. He will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters degree, honoris causa. Dr Sergi has headed the Department of Education since 1994. A PhD and JD, both from the University of Connecticut, the commissioner has been a leader in state education initiatives for more than 25 years, with a special concern for Connecticut’s neediest schools.

Richard Lapchick, founder and director of the Center for the Study of Sport in Society at Northeastern University, will be accepting an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree, and address the Undergraduate Commencement audience on Sunday, May 18, at 11 am, at the Campus Field.
