Garner Guard Arrested On Heroin Charges

  State police have arrested a Garner Correctional Institution correction officer on drug charges, alleging the man attempted to bring heroin into the high security prison on Nunnawauk Road while working there.

At about 11:40 pm May 12, members of the state police’s Statewide Narcotics Task Force charged correction officer Anthony Collins, 39, of New Milford with two counts of attempting to distribute heroin and two counts of attempting to convey of contraband into a correctional institution, state police said.

State police said that Collins had attempted to convey heroin into Garner on two separate occasions while working there as a correction officer.

 Collins was held on a $510,000 bond overnight for arraignment on May 13 in Danbury Superior Court.

Following the arraignment on the drug charges, bond was set at $300,000. Collins was being held as a prisoner at the state Department of Correction’s MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield for May 20 court appearance.
