Douglas J. DelVecchio

Douglas J. DelVecchio, 56, of Newtown, a teacher for Jockey Hollow Middle School in Monroe, died on May 13 at his residence with his loving family at his side.

Born in Bridgeport and raised in Trumbull, he was the son of Sadye (Caldana) DelVecchio of Trumbull and the late Joseph N. DelVecchio, and was a Newtown resident for more than 30 years.

He was a graduate of Providence College and received his master’s degree and sixth year certificate in administration from Fairfield University. Mr DelVecchio taught eighth grade United States history for 34 years and was loved by all his students. He was a devoted family man and a true sports enthusiast.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his beloved wife of 32 years, Carol (Webb) DelVacchio; a son, Douglas Alex DelVecchio and his fiancé, Sharleen DeMatties; a daughter, Megan (DelVecchio) Gagnon and her husband, Jayson, all of Newtown; his father- and mother-in-law, Roger and Virginia Webb of Darien; a brother-in-law, Roger Webb of Florida; an aunt, Lucille Baratz of Monroe, cousins, Kenneth Caldana, Seth and Kathy Baratz, and Greg and Lauren Logsted; and several additional cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends.

Friends are invited to meet directly at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, on Friday, May 16, at 10:30 am, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 or to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897. Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
