Casey Kirch may have the school record and John Oliver may be leading the team in goals, but senior Tommy Ryan has a pretty good shot, too, and proved that by scoring 10 goals in a pair of Newtown High School boysâ lacrosse wins this past week.
Ryan scored five times (with three assists) in a 14-5 win over Immaculate last Thursday and scored five more times in an 11-4 win over East Lyme on Saturday. Those 10 goals give him 30 for the season and 126 for his career.
The Nighthawks â who suffered a 12-10 loss to Division I Conard of West Hartford last Wednesday â are 8-2 overall, 5-1 in the South-West Conference.
In the win over Immaculate, Oliver scored three goals and assisted on another while Kirch scored one goal and assisted on three others. Jay Romanelli had a goal and two assists while David Wesley, Mike Soder, Clay Brier and Jay Schunter scored goals and Ted Yemc, Soder, Brendan OâConner and Dan Mallen provided assists.
In the win over East Lyme, Kirch added four goals and three assists (giving him a team-high 55 points). OâConnor and Kyle Kirch scored goals while Oliver (2), Soder (2) and Jeff Bell provided assists.
After the âHawks tuned up against Notre Dame on Thursday, tough challenges against perennial powerhouse Fairfield (on Saturday) and Ridgefield (on Tuesday) still lay ahead. A game against rival Brookfield and Division I Farmington will finish out the regular season.
The SWC playoffs will begin Thursday, May 29.
