Jean E. DiPaola, 67, a longtime resident of Newtown, died May 14 in Danbury Hospital. Mrs DiPaola was the wife of Richard G. DiPaola and lived at 11 Mount Pleasant Road.
Mrs DiPaola was born in the Bronx, N.Y., December 19, 1932, daughter of the late George and Mary (Regan) Ginty. Most of her early years were spent in Valley Stream on Long Island. She moved to Newtown with her husband in 1961.
While raising four children she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Connecticut State University where she qualified as a member of the deanâs list of outstanding students. She was employed by the Danbury Board of Education as a media specialist and later as a library teacher. Her final assignment was as a teacher of English as a Second Language at Danbury High School. She retired two years ago. During her teaching career she earned a Master of Arts degree and a sixth year certificate of advanced study from Fairfield University. She was a member of the Fairfield University Phi Delta Kappa honor society.
Mrs DiPaola was a member of St Rose of Lima parish. She was a past member of the Rosary Society, taught CCD classes, and helped improve the organization and set up of St Rose School Library when her children went to school there.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Edward DiPaola of Brookfield and Raymond DiPaola of Pawcatuck; two daughters, Cecilia Dalzell of Spokane, Wash. and Jeniann Fisher of Newtown; two brothers, George and James Ginty of Long Island; four grandchildren, Peter DiPaola, James DiPaola, Patrick DiPaola, and Jacqueline Fisher; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held May 17, from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, and in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was in St Rose Cemetery.
