Is K-6 School The Best Solution?
Is K-6 School The Best Solution?
To the Editor:
Yes, a lot of hard working people have taken a good long look at the need for building a new school in Newtown. And yes, the need is great, given the thousands of new homes built since the construction of the last elementary school. But has enough focus been centered on the long-term impact on children in progressing through too many schools during their formative years? Recent research studies of the middle school concept have revealed that changing schools may have serious consequences on the learning and socializing process of many boys and girls. The impact on the development of boys into young men is especially intense and may have much to do with todayâs news headlines. Could society be returning to the K-8 grade school just as we are about to create a 5/6?
