Ignored Stop Sign
Newtown Police report Thomas Dudeck, 52, of Milford, operating a 1988 Toyota Long Bed 1 Ton, was traveling westbound on High Bridge Road towards Botsford Hill Road at 7:44 am April 25. Annika Bozentko, 17, of Newtown operating a 2012 Subaru Impreza, was traveling northbound on Botsford Hill Road. Police say Dudeck’s vehicle entered the intersection of High Bridge Road and Botsford Hill Road and the front of his vehicle struck the passenger’s side of Botzenko’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Dudeck was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.
Head-On Collision
Newtown Police report Dios Fernandes, 36, of Danbury, operating a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 11:22 pm April 28. Hannah Miller, 26, of Brookfield, operating a 2018 Honda CR-V, was traveling northbound on Main Street. Police say Fernandes’ vehicle crossed the center line and struck Miller’s vehicle head-on.
Both drivers were transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed. Fernandes was issued infractions for failure to maintain a lane and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Pushed Car Off Road Into Pole, Wall
Newtown Police report Pedro Casio, 23, of Bridgeport, operating a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 10:41 pm May 1. Shawn Davis, 26, of Trumbull, operating a 2016 Nissan Altima, was traveling southbound on South Main Street ahead of Casio. Davis said that a vehicle in front of him put on their turn signal at the last minute to make a left turn onto Elizabeth Circle, so he attempted to pass on the right. Police say Casio was unable to slow in time and his vehicle struck the rear end of Davis’ vehicle, causing Davis’ vehicle to be sent from the roadway onto the right shoulder, sideswiping a utility pole and a tree before striking a rock wall.
Davis was transported to Danbury Hospital for a possible injury. Davis’ vehicle was towed. Casio was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Caitlin Thompson, 21, of Southbury, operating a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 4:57 pm May 4. Sharon Bicho, 54, of Newtown, operating a 2022 Audi Q5, was stopped in the southbound right lane at a traffic light at the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road. The front of Thompson’s vehicle struck the rear of Bicho’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed. Thompson was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Driving Unregistered Vehicle
Newtown Police report McKayla Cartwright, 27, of New Milford, was arrested at 7:30 pm May 5 on the charges of operating an unregistered motor vehicle and improper use of marker plates. She was released on a promise to appear with a court date of May 23 in Danbury Superior Court.
Probation Violation Developed
Newtown Police report Donald Gaines, 43, of West Haven, was arrested at 3 pm May 6 on the charges of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension, failure to obey traffic control signals, possession of a controlled substance — first offense, and violation of probation. He was released on $25,000 bond with court dates of May 16 and May 18 in Danbury Superior Court.
Assault Arrest
Newtown Police report Hunter Low, 27, of Newtown, was arrested at 3:35 am May 8 on the charge of third-degree assault. He was held with a court date later that day in Danbury Superior Court.
Crash At Road Construction
Newtown Police report John Penaranda-Guaraca, 21, of New Haven, operating a 2020 Ford Transit T-250, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 1:59 pm May 8. Mayur Dudhedia, 58, of Brookfield, operating a 2017 Subaru Legacy, stopped for road construction in the eastbound travel lane, ahead of Penaranda-Guaraca. Police say Penaranda-Guaraca attempted to cross the centerline to avoid hitting Dudhedia’s vehicle, but the right front corner of his vehicle struck the left rear corner of Dudhedia’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed. Penaranda-Guaraca was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license, and issued a verbal warning for following too closely.
Sexual Assault Arrest
On May 10, the Newtown Police Department Detective Bureau arrested Justin Walsh, 45, of Southbury, on the charge of third-degree sexual assault on a warrant from Danbury Superior Court. Walsh’s arrest culminated an “exhaustive and tedious” five-month-long investigation by Detective Chelsea Harold.
Walsh was processed and transferred to Danbury Superior Court for a court date later that day.
