Library To Offer Free Programs For Job Hunters

Job hunters are invited to attend a free program demonstrating the use of ReferenceUSA, a powerful subscription database that can be used to find potential employers in specific fields, at Cyrenius H. Booth Library on Thursday, June 4.

A RefUSA representative will offer two detailed demonstrations, one at 9 am (guests should use the entrance off the back parking lot, since the program starts before regular library hours) and one at 7 pm, each with a question-and-answer period.

Although the event is free, reservations are requested and can be done online (CHBoothLibrary.org) or by calling 426-4533. Refreshments will be served.

ReferenceUSA is a powerful database that is paid for by the library and made available to the public free of charge. It can be accessed at the library or remotely using a Newtown library card.

Job seekers can use the RefUSA database to look for companies that match their degrees or interests, find businesses nearby, conduct research about industries and companies, find executives, corporate families and company descriptions, follow the link to a company’s website for deeper details, or find companies that do not advertise their openings.

This free demonstration is part of the C.H. Booth Library’s effort to assist members of the community in finding employment. A free job-hunting packet put together by the reference librarians is available on the third floor of the library as well as at Newtown Social Services, Edmond Town Hall at the first selectman’s office, and FAITH Food Pantry.
