Choral Society Will Perform A Scholarship Benefit Concert
WOODBURY â The Connecticut Choral Society and Friends of Woodbury Public Library will present the first annual CCS Kannengeiser Memorial Concert on June 3 at North Congregational Church.
The concert, which will begin on Saturday at 5 pm, will be a tribute to the late Joel Kannengeiser of Woodbury, who had served as vice president of the Friends of Woodbury Public Library prior to his sudden death last January. Mr Kannengeiser was also a longtime member of the choral society and was heavily involved in the development of its scholarship fund, now named in his honor.
During his years of service to the library, Mr Kannengeiser worked tirelessly to raise funds through book fairs, tag sales and other means. He was also active in volunteer work at Southbury Training School, WMNR Fine Arts Radio, and Friends in Service Here of Woodbury. It was also largely due to hie efforts that the CCS scholarship program was established in 1998 to benefit talented high school singers in the area.
Soloists will include Daniel Ciba and Melissa Famiglietti, both winners of the 1999 Kannengeiser Scholarship Fund competition, followed by this yearâs winners, Christina Ellington and Jeff Tuohy. Also in performance will be Pamela Hoffman, a well-known vocalist in the area who was for several years Joel Kannengeiserâs voice teacher, and a duet by Heather and Dan Narducci. Estelle Mackenzie will accompany the singers.
Freewill donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will go to the CCS Kannengeiser Scholarship Fund. For further information, call 203/263-3502. The church is at 214 Main Street South (Route 6) in Woodbury.
