Nighthawk Golf Squads Defeat Conference Foes

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ golf teams picked up victories this past week. The girls’ squad won four matches to stay unbeaten at 11-0 overall; the boys won three matches and also tied for first in the Woodland Invitational, and stand at 9-3 overall.

Girls Improve To 11-0

Newtown shot a 189 to defeat both Bunnell of Stratford (242) and Brookfield (261) in a match at Rock Ridge Country Club on May 6. Sarah Houle shot a 43, Molly Wilson had a 44, Liz Weisgerber shot a 54, and Brenna Kelly had a 48.

The Nighthawks shot a 188 to defeat host Brookfield (232) in a match on May 11. Houle and Molly Wilson each shot a 42, Weisgerber shot a 51, and Halle Wilson had a 53.

In a May 12 visit to Weston, Newtown won 194-230. Houle led the way with a 39, Molly Wilson shot a 46, Weisgerber shot a 54, and Kelly had a 55.

Boys Now 9-3 Overall

The boys defeated host Bunnell on May 6. The Hawks shot a 170 and Bunnell fired a 198. Josh Houle shot a 39, Colin Patrick shot a 42, Ryan Patrick had a 44, Jacob Burden had a 45, and Graham Hubbert shot a 52.

Newtown defeated visiting Brookfield, 153-184 in a match on May 11. Houle shot a 36, Hubbert had a 37, Colin Patrick shot a 39, Burden had a 41, and Ryan Patrick shot a 46.

The Hawks earned their ninth victory by edging visiting Joel Barlow of Redding 162-164 the next day. Hubbert led the way with a 36, Houle and Burden each shot a 41, Colin Patrick fired a 44, and Curtis Williamson shot a 47.

Liz Weisgerber and the Nighthawks improved to 11-0 this season with wins over Stratford, Brookfield (twice), and Weston this past week.
