Senior services for Newtown seniors are available at the Multipurpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The Senior Center is under the auspices of the Commission on Aging. You may drop in at the Senior Center weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon, for which you must reserve three days in advance.
Newtown has daily door-to-door minibus service Monday through Friday. Buses also run all day from the Senior Center to Sand Hill Plaza. On Fridays, the bus alternates between rides to Danbury Fair Mall and Berkshire Plaza in Danbury (to Walmart Route 6). Cost is 65¢ each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip, 75¢ each way for out of town. *On Tuesday, May 18, at noon, the senior nutrition traveling chef will be preparing Italian-style panini sandwiches along with Italian wedding soup, tomato and cucumber salad, and ice cream and strawberries. Prepaid reservations are required; limited to 40. Cost is $5.50. Entertainment with Bob Giannotti to follow at 1 pm.
*Annual RSVP Recognition luncheon is May 19 at the Amber Room. You need 20 hours during the past year to attend. Make sure you have reported your hours to Marilyn.
*Tell us in 500 words or less why you or someone you know could use a FREE SENIOR (65 and older) MAKEOVER. One male and one female will be chosen to receive an outfit, haircut from Ricciâs Academy, a Swiss skin care consult, and before and after photos. Entry deadline is Thursday, May 20. *On Thursday, June 10, a LOBSTERFEST at the Log Cabin in Holyoke, Mass. First stop, the Christmas Tree Shop, then to the Log Cabin for a boiled lobster feast, barbecued ribs and chicken, clam chowder and all the trimmings, followed by Jimmy Mazz performing a tribute to Englebert, Tom Jones and Lou Rawls. Depart 8 am; cost is $85.
*NEWPORT FLOWER SHOW on Saturday, June 26, at Rosecliff Mansion has an African theme. Tour the mansion and the grounds to see the magnificent floral arrangements and beautiful displays. Bring your lunch or grab some in the Wharf area. Depart at 7:30 am; cost is $58.
*Sugar, The Some Like It Hot Musical at Westchester Broadway Theatre on Thursday, July 1 will include lunch. Depart at 9:30 am; $88.
*All You Can Eat Lobster buffet at Delaney House, Holyoke, Mass., on Thursday, July 22, along with a comedy and impressions show by Frank Cirell. Cost is $91. Come check out the great menu.
*Depart 8 am on Wednesday, September 8, stop for coffee at The Great White Way and then off to the Bossa Nova for lunch. After lunch enjoy the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons in Jersey Boys on Broadway, with orchestra seating. Early registration is required. Cost is $190.
