Police Investigating A Backlog of Burglary/Larceny Cases

Police are probing a rash of burglaries and larcenies that have occurred across town in recent weeks in seeking to learn who committed the property crimes.

Detective Sergeant Darlene Froehlich said it is unknown whether the same person or persons committed the various crimes. Police are continuing their investigations into the incidents, she said. Such crimes are often difficult to solve, she noted.

Police have said that other area towns also have recently experienced an increase in their burglary/larceny rates.

Police this week disclosed the backlog of cases that they are investigating that extend from incidents on May 10 back to March 11.

The following burglary/larcenies are listed in reverse-chronological order.

On May 10, police responded to a report of a daytime burglary/larceny at a home on Joan Drive. No one was home when the crime occurred. Items stolen included clothing and an amplifier for an automotive sound system.

At about 2 pm on April 19, a burglary-in-progress was interrupted by a Willowbrook Lane resident who returned home. The suspect fled the scene with various items stolen from the premises. The resident was not injured.

 The suspect has been identified and an arrest warrant is being sought, police said. The crimes committed included burglary, larceny, and criminal mischief.

On April 12, sometime between 8 am and 3:45 pm, someone entered a Jeremiah Road home by forcing open the side door of an attached garage. The intruder stole a Samsung-brand television from the house.

 Also, police report that sometime between 11 and 11:15 am on April 8, an unknown white male entered a home on John Beach Road and stole some jewelry.

When the homeowner returned to the residence, the burglar as still inside the building, according to police. The burglar fled the scene after being discovered. The resident was not injured.

Police report that sometime between 8 am and 3 pm on April 7, someone illegally entered a Joan Drive residence through the basement doors. Jewelry was stolen from the premises.

Police had earlier reported that two forced-entry burglaries occurred at homes on Cedar Hill Road on March 31. In one of those burglaries, apparently no items were stolen. Police are now reporting the extent of loss that occurred in the other break-in. In that incident, jewelry and watches worth approximately $8,500 were stolen from a master bedroom sometime between 7:30 am and 5 pm that day.

Also, sometime between 12:30 and 1:30 pm on March 23, a burglar or burglars entered a home on Boggs Hill Road a stole some jewelry from a jewelry box.

In another incident, sometime between 1:30 pm on March 16 and 1:30 pm on March 17, someone entered a detached garage at a Hattertown Road residence, causing about $250 of damage to a door there. It is unclear is any items were stolen from the garage.

Police said they are investigating a daytime burglary/larceny at a Georges Hill Road home in which someone entered the house through an unlocked door on March 11 and stole a Microsoft Xbox electronic game console, some Xbox games, and a router for a computer network. The value of the stolen items exceeds $730.
