Fighting Eagles 3, Fighting Irish 1: The Fighting Eagles saw some real toughness this game as Nathalie Schickendantz scored a pair of goals and Simone Paradis also hit the back of the net once. Megan Riccardi held the goal line defense, while Ashleigh Thomas showed off her fierce Eagle defensive skills in the backfield. For the Fighting Irish, Keeley Kortze scored the lone goal. Hailey Wilson and Payge Shaw played with great intensity. Shauna Tucker was a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the ball.

Newtown Breeze 2, Old Greenwich 0: Newtown once again held its opponent scoreless behind the defensive efforts of Jessica Maturo, Ashley Santore, and Sarah Houle. Marcella Daily scored the first goal of the game. Natalie Kelchner added the second off of an assist from Santore. Samantha Crespo and Cecilia Schoeni were key on offense, while Kelchner and Rylee Mulligan combined in the goal for Newtown.
Newtown Heat 4, Fairfield Fillies 0: The Heat brought their Motherâs Day game to Fairfield on Sunday, beating the Fillies by a score of 4-0. Starting off the scoring was Alexis Mason, and a hat trick by Lauren King produced the rest of the goals. The offensive line was anchored by Kaitlyn Reilly, with solid defensive efforts by Audrey Sedensky, Catherine Shaw, Ally Paynter, and Maria Ringes. Goalie Colleen McCarthy had a terrific game.
Monroe Green 6, Newtown Heat 0: The Heat beat off the heavy rain but couldnât stem the tough Monroe offensive tide on Saturday, losing a heartbreaker. With no subs to rotate into the game, the Heat pushed hard in their efforts with Alexis Mason, Anna Moscovici, Elizabeth Chaniec-Case, and Kaitlyn Reilly working hard to drive the offense, and Maria Ringes, Catherine Shaw, and Ally Paynter anchoring the defense. Kira Kelly was tough in goal, blocking numerous shots in this tough loss for the Heat.
Animals 0 vs Underdogs 0: In a lightning-shortened game, both teams played an aggressive game. For the Animals, Brianna Castellano and Laura Mailin led the offense, while Madison Findley and Olivia Bellagamba were strong on defense. For the Underdogs, Kira Smith led the defense, while Elizabeth Pratt and Sarah Simonson were aggressive on offense. Natalie Shaker was good in goal.

Newtown Thistle 3, Darien Red 2: Stefanie Carr was a standout on both ends of the field. She not only scored as a forward for Newtown, but also made some awesome saves as goalie. Emily Neave continued to shine for Newtown on offense, scoring two goals. Brianna Lutz and Chloe Rogalin outplayed Darien on the defensive end. Mia Katsuleres and Kendra Dunnigan were tenacious at midfield.

Lightning 3, Meriden 0 (State Cup game): The Lightning emerged victorious in their first State Cup outing after a nearly two-hour game that tested the defensive endurance of both teams and ended in a dramatic penalty kick shootout. With gale-force winds creating punishing conditions throughout the contest, the game remained scoreless after two overtime sessions. The U13 girls fought hard against both the wind and their opponents, and ultimately they prevailed in the shootout when Meriden was unable to connect with the back of the nets, and Newtown scored on penalty kicks by Michelle Zarifis, Kate Fallon, and Shelby Tolla. Strong goalkeeping was key to the teamâs success, as Andrea Rodriquez had an excellent game in the nets during regulation play and overtime, showing physical and mental toughness throughout, and Jesse Sailer was great in goal during the penalty kick shootout, where she stood tough under extreme pressure and notched a critical save.
Trumbull 2, Lightning 1: Amy Martinelli led the offensive effort with a quick goal early in the first half, and Megan Weber had a nice assist. But as the game progressed, the U13 girls, who had three players sidelined due to injuries, were unable to keep up the momentum against a very physical Trumbull team. Jesse Sailer had a strong game in goal with a number of saves and Shelby Tolla played well on both ends of the field.

Chatterboxes 6, Twisters 2: The Chatterboxes win was a complete team effort with strong offense as well as defense. Two goals each were scored by Sierra Mather and Jamie Duncan and a goal each for Meghan Grimes and Alex Dittrich. Meghan Grimes led with three assists and Sierra Mather gathered two. Renee Henriques anchored the defense as Stephanie Devaney, Hannah Grant, and Chrissy Moore controlled the midfield. For the Twisters, goals were scored by Kerry Scallon and Tonya Tucker. The team had strong goaltending by Nicole Mendonca, persistent midfield play by Lexi Tucker, and a great all around effort by Mary Kate Malin.
Chatterboxes 1, Bearcats 1: The Chatterboxesâ lone goal was scored by Meghan Grimes. Strong midfield play by Amanda Donovan, Marissa Liberante, and Danielle Mola was anchored by Brianna Baranoski in goal. For the Bearcats, the goal was scored by Molly Begg. Great games by Stephanie Haas, Emma Lardner, and Emma Deflumeri.

Black Hawks 2, Blue Nights 2: The Blue Nights started off strong with William Pelisson and Duncan OâLeary each scoring in the first quarter. Strong offence was provided by Tucker Depuy, while Marlons Medina was solid in defense. For the Black Hawks, Kyle Duval scored one goal and later had one assist to Hunter Kirkman, who scored the second goal to tie the game. Darren Huffman, Ben Schmid-Tharnish, and Sachin Mansukhani contributed to a strong defense.

Net Rippers 0, Fairfield 1: A nail-biter was lost Mother, Day despite the superhuman efforts of goalie Adam Bergeron, and an incredible defense by Andy Greenwood, Ryan Brello, and Mark Hall. The offense was lead by the mighty Matt Gerbo and strong efforts by Harper brothers Josh and Nick, with powerhouse Brendan OâHara, Silas Decker, and Hunter Procaccini showing incredible depth on the field as well.

Newtown Storm 4, Masuk 1: On Sunday, the U11 boys travel team played Masuk on a stormy afternoon. Newtownâs offense kept the opposition on its toes early and often with repeated drives to the Masuk goal, scoring early with a goal by Hayes Kelchner coming off a perfect pass by Thomas Leuci. Shane Gattey quickly got into the action with a quick strike off an Austin Engler pass. Hayes Kelchner closed out the first half with a scoring shot from 20 feet off a Sebastian Forero pass. The second half was filled with more Newtown; Mike Meyers led the way with a scoring blast from 40 feet off an Owen Samson pass that closed out the scoring for a 4-1 Newtown win. Richard Ciamarra and Nathan Augenbraun kept pressure all day with quick offensive strikes. Once again physical defensive play led by a tenacious Jamie Cochrane with help from Jack Riley, Forest Weatherby, and Connery Mayer, and great goalie play by Robert Katrinak shut down the Wilton offense for the entire game.

Wolverines 6, Phoenix 5: Jake Moore and Eric Schlesingem each scored two goals for Wolverines. Conor Murphy was strong in the goal. Omar Rodriguez scored three goals and Miguel Rodriguez scored two goals for Phoenix. Kaustav Mitra had some good passes. Akash Ahuja played strong goalie.
American Tigers 1, Hot Pockets 2:
 Dillon Columbo scored for the American Tigers. Alister Sore did a great job as goalie and Patrick Olah played solid mid-field for the Tigers. Carter Nordman and Korey Brodsky scored for the Hot Pockets. Ian Lew was great on offense for the Hot Pockets while his brother, Dylan Lew, did a great job on defense.
