Free Stroke Screening, Sight Lecture Hosted By St Vincentâs
BRIDGEPORT â St Vincentâs Medical Center will host free stroke risk screenings in recognition of Stroke Awareness Month, on May 20 from 10 am to 4 pm in the Medical Center Lobby, 2800 Main Street.
The event, part of a national program sponsored by the American Stroke Association, will include a free screening, no appointment necessary. Each screening will comprise a health history questionnaire, blood pressure check, pulse rate, a carotid bruit, and a short video on the warning signs of stroke Carotid evaluation. Last year almost 150 participants receive a stroke risk assessment and another 100 collected materials on stroke prevention and treatment.
According to Jennifer Nascimento, RN, stroke coordinator and planner of the event, âThe purpose of the stroke screening is to increase public awareness of stroke signs and symptoms, and to educate people about stroke risks, prevention, and treatments available so they would act quickly in the event of an occurrence.â

St Vincentâs Medical Center is also sponsoring a free talk open to the general public titled âThe Aging Eyeâ as part of its spring 2010 Listen & Learn Lecture Series. The talk will take place on Thursday, May 20, from 12:30Â to 1:30 pm, hosted by The Watermark, 3030 Park Avenue, Bridgeport.
Featured speaker, Daniel Kessler, MD, will discuss common problems that arise as eyes begin to age and the different treatment options available.
Daniel Kessler, MD, is board certified and specializes in ophthalmology. He currently practices medicine at Vincent and Delia Manjoney MDs in Bridgeport.
A question and answer session will follow the presentation, and light refreshments will be provided.
