FREEMAN’S WILL OFFER FINE GEMS AT JEWELRY AUCTION JUNE 8, 2 CUTS

AVV/GS SET 5/14#

PHILADELPHIA, PENN. — Freeman’s will hold its second jewelry sale of the year Sunday, June 8, at 2 pm, featuring 250 lots from various private collectors and jewelry enthusiasts.

A standout in the sale is a collection of jewelry brought up from Concord, N.C., from the estate of the late Mariam Cannon Hayes, heiress to a vast textile fortune.

Known for her philanthropy in western North Carolina, Hayes left behind a nine-piece collection with a total value of $140,000 at the low end of the estimate.

The portion of her jewelry being offered in this sale is another example of her keen eye for collecting antique and fine jewelry. The collection presented represents the Art Deco era.

All proceeds from the sale of Hayes jewelry are going to benefit the Mariam and Robert Hayes Charitable Trust, a private foundation benefiting many charitable organizations throughout North Carolina.

Among the many pieces of value and interest are a open work filigree Art Nouveau circle brooch of more than nine carats of white diamonds at $30/40,000 and a pair of platinum and diamond ear pendants ($6,5/8,500).

The gentleman buyer has not been overlooked and the sale includes an important collection of rare wristwatches by A. Lange and Sohne, Patek, F.P. Journe, Vacheron and Constantin from a Florida gentleman collector. In the collection is an Rolex Perpetual Precision triple calendar wristwatch ($45/65,000).

Preview will be Wednesday, June 4, to Friday, June 6, from 10 am to 4 pm, and Saturday, noon to 5 pm.

Freeman’s is at 1808 Chestnut Street. For information, www.freemansauction.com or 215-563-9275.
