School Board To Honor Students, Examine Substance Abuse

Lauren Busser and Matthew Kuruc of Newtown Middle School and Sasha Mastrocinque and Edward Wolf of Newtown High School will receive the Superintendent’s Student of the Year awards at a regional reception of the Western Connecticut Superintendent’s Association to be held on Monday, May 17, at 4 pm, at the Fireside Inn.

The Board of Education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 18, at 7:30 pm in Room 122 of Reed Intermediate School. A presentation by Newtown High School principal Bill Manfredonia on the internal assessment of high school substance abuse prevention strategies will be made at the meeting.  In addition, the Board will hear an update on the district’s special education programs by Pupil Services Director Michael Regan.
