NHS Student Attending NSLC Conference
Newtown High School junior Daniel Morehouse, son of Robert and May Morehouse, was recently selected to participate in the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC), a leadership development program for outstanding high school students. While attending the NSLC, Daniel will have the opportunity to study, experience, and develop the skills and traits that define and identify a leader. Daniel will join 8,000 gifted high school students from across the United States and 45 countries worldwide.
During the conference, students attend special workshops and classes where they study distinctions of leadership. Special guest speakers (that in previous years have included US Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona, Secretary of Education Rod Paige, former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, former Attorney General Janet Reno, president of the World Bank and Supreme Court justices Anthony Kennedy, Sandra Day OâConnor, and David Souter, as well as world-renowned surgeons, international medical researches, ambassadors, and Pentagon and White House officials.
âStudents develop a sense of independence and responsibility,â noted Dr Paul M. Lisnek, the NSLC director of academics and former assistant dean of Loyola University Chicago School of Law. âThey leave with a true feeling of accomplishment and confidence in their ability to handle the challenges that lie ahead.â
The NSLC offers leadership conferences on Mastering Leadership, Law & Advocacy, Medicine & Health Care, Entrepreneurship and Business, International Diplomacy, US Policy and Politics, Intelligence and National Security and Inside the Arts.
