Trull Awards
Each year, the Newtown Lions Club presents an outstanding junior, both female and male, at Newtown High School with the Trull Award, named after the Newtown Lions first president.
In addition to recognizing academic prowess, the Trull Award honors students who have excelled in extracurricular and community activities.
Quincey Blanchard is the female Trull Award winner. Her guidance counselor, Gerry Waterbury, described her as an âawesomeâ young woman who is an exceptional student. She has a love of conservation and has worked on many projects in that area. She is a three-year member of both the NHS Indoor and Outdoor Track teams as well as the NHS Cross Country team.
Kyle Lyddy is the male Trull Award winner. His guidance counselor, Jeff Jolson, described Kyle as one of the âmost enthusiastic, positive peopleâ that he had ever met. In addition to contributing to the NHS website, Jeff has logged more than 300 hours on a website he personally developed dedicated to NHS sports. He updates the site daily. Kyle also had a lead role in the drama clubâs recent production of Les Miserables.
Jenna Zigman, president of the NHS Leo Club, was honored as Leo of the Year. The National Honor Society student is involved in a variety of extracurricular and community activities.
