John Anthony Verrilli

John Anthony Verrilli, 82, of Monroe, beloved husband of Phyllis (Galemba) Verrilli, died May 11 at Maefair Health Care Center in Trumbull. Mr Verrilli was born on March 29, 1922, in Bridgeport, a son of the late Joseph and Lucia (Scinto) Verrilli.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Phyllis Verrilli of Monroe; devoted children, Gerald “Jerry” Anthony Verrilli and his wife Gail of Newtown, and Audrey Bleakney and her husband Kurt of Monroe. He also leaves a brother, Leonard A. Verrilli of Bridgeport; four grandchildren, Jesse Bleakney, and Michele, Carl, and Sonja Cizmazia; and four great-grandchildren.

He was a former owner of the Verrilli Tavern on the east side of Bridgeport for more than 20 years. He was a resident of Monroe for 50 years, a member of St Stephen’s Church in Trumbull, and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, St Theresa Council, in Trumbull. He was a plumber who worked for years with his brother in their business, J&L Plumbing.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 15, at 8 am from the Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike (Route 111), Monroe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am in St Stephen’s Church, 6948 Main Street, Trumbull. Interment will follow in the Monroe Center Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, May 14, from 4 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden CT 06450 or to the Kidney Foundation.
