The Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown held its seventh annual Plant Sale last Motherâs Day weekend.
âAll of the flowers and plants come from the membersâ own gardens,â said President Molly Doersch with a smile.
The event is the clubâs only fundraiser during the year.
In addition to a variety of green and flowering plants including azaleas and impatiens, some members had created gift baskets filled with gardening tools and gloves, plant seeds and small watering cans, in addition to hand lotions and candles.
Other products included small flowerpot shaped holiday ornaments topped with glitter and watering can candleholders.
All of the crafts were handmade by club members.
âEach year the Inn at Newtown has been our host,â said Ms Doersch, gesturing to the historic white building behind her. âAnd weâre very appreciative.â
A member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut and National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc, Town and Country Garden Clubâs objectives are to promote interest in horticulture, increase knowledge of the artistic use of plant material, further the conversation of natural resources, and to become involved in civic projects including decorating the C.H. Booth Library during the holiday season.
During its weekly meeting, the club often hosts various speakers on garden-related topics.
