Carl John Blaskewicz, 72, of Monroe, beloved husband of Gwendolyn (Clapp) Blaskewicz, died May 7 in St Vincentâs Medical Center. Mr Blaskewicz was born in Monroe on July 11, 1931, a son of the late Carl and Magdalena (Machuacz) Blaskewicz.
He was a lifelong resident of Monroe where he attended school in the one room schoolhouse on Tannery Road, graduating from one of its last classes before closing. He also served his country as a US Army Veteran during the Korean War. He owned, operated, and was president of the Monroe Construction and Excavating Company.
He is also survived by his devoted children: Jo-Anne L. Smith and her husband Richard of Newtown, and Richard Carl Blaskewicz and his wife Antoinette of Monroe;. his sisters, Helen Michel and her husband John of Monroe, Genevieve Staffy of Stratford, and Sophie Czaplicki and her husband Raymond of Milford; five beloved grandchildren, Jacob Carl, Nicole Anna, Luke Emanuele, Zachary Paul, and Nathan John Blaskewicz.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Bennard, and Edward Blaskewicz, and by three sisters, Louise Slushinski, Blanche Pankiewicz, and Virginia Dralus.
The funeral took place on May 11 from the Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike (Route 111), Monroe, to the Beacon Hill Evangelical Free Church, 371 Old Zoar Road in Monroe. Interment followed in the Monroe Center Cemetery.
