The Right Flash Set-Up For The Best Photo, May 19 At Booth Library
Tom Cuchara of The New Haven Camera Club will present a program on flash photography during the next meeting of Flagpole Photographers. The group will meeting on Thursday, May 19, at 7:30 pm, at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.
Mr Cuchara and his wife Lisa have been professional photographers for over 15 years with a studio in Hamden. Mr Cuchara will demonstrate that flash photography is all about adding light to the subject.
âSometimes the flash is the sole light source, other times it is supplemental light designed to accent the subject. Direct Flash, indirect flash, light modified flash, bounced flash, fill flash, rear curtain flash, high speed flash⦠the key to using flash is to learn how to control the light for the wanted effect,â said Mr Cuchara, who plans to demonstrate pop-up on camera flash, external shoe mounted flash and off-camera flash options.
Mr Cuchara will cover different styles of flash brackets and flash modifiers, as well as bounced light utilizing such basic things as paper plates, tablecloths, T-shirts, and reflectors. Full flash versus fill flash will be demonstrated on a nature subject and a portrait subject.
Tom and Lisa Cuchara are both very active in many local, national and international photography organizations. They have had many successful gallery exhibitions and their work has appeared in Adirondack Life, Wild Bird, Birderâs World, in calendars, on the cover of the Wolf Conservation Calendar, and on the cover of a paperback novel.
The May 19 meeting of Flagpole Photographers will also include a for the members, with this monthâs subject being âReligion/Sacred Places.â The Cucharas, along with another out-of-town photographer, will serve as judges. Color prints and black and white prints will also be judged in separate competitions.Â
