Israeli Teen Musicians

To Perform Twice In Danbury

DANBURY — The Jewish Federation of Greater Danbury is sponsoring a visit from seven teenage musicians of the Yizreel Music Center Delegation in Afula, Israel. The group will give two public performances this weekend at Congregation B’nai Israel, 193 Clapboard Ridge Road.

On Saturday, May 14, an event with food and dancing will begin with a cocktail hour at 9 pm featuring the house band, The Not Ready for Prime Time Players.

The Israeli musicians will perform at 10 pm. Isaac Ohring, a young congregant and accomplished violinist, will perform some Klezmer pieces he composed with the group.

Admission is $10 per person.

On Sunday, May 15, a Young People’s Concert for those age 6 and older will then be offered at 11 am. Mr Ohring will again perform with the visiting musicians.

The concert will be a spirited sing-along, “a great family opportunity to celebrate Israeli Independence Day and enjoy the spirit of Israel,” said Barbara Levitt, a Jewish Federation volunteer. Area musicians who would like to perform with the group are invited to contact Ms Levitt, at 203-792-2259, as soon as possible.

The public performances will be the third and final appearance by the Israeli musicians in Danbury, who are scheduled to arrive in Danbury on Friday and spend time jamming with the Danbury High School orchestra and band students. The young musicians have been sending music back and forth to each other, and will coordinate those efforts this weekend.

Also on Friday the musicians will perform with local teen musicians in the Sabbath service at Temple Shearith Israel in Ridgefield. The students will be spending the weekend with four host families.

For concert reservations, call 203-792-6161.
