Have Tea And

Help Newtown’s Seniors

To the Editor:

Newtown’s senior’s have a leaky handicapped bus. It has been that way for several years despite the numerous attempts to repair it. This vehicle needs to be replaced but didn’t make it through the budget process. So we decided to start raising funds to help replace it.

The kick-off event is a Victorian Tea to be held Sunday, May 15, from 1 to 3 pm at the Senior Center on Riverside Road. The teas will be supplied by Simpson and Vail of Brookfield. Scones, finger sandwiches, and baked goods will be served with the tea. There will be a silent auction as well. The cost is $10 per person and seating is limited. To reserve your spot or get more information, please send an e-mail to 4fundraiser@gmail.com. We are still accepting donations and volunteers for both Saturday and Sunday.

We have started selling raffle tickets for a queen-size quilt that the seniors have made, as well as prints donated by local artists David Merrill and Michelle Rosenthal. The drawing will be held June 20 at the Senior Center. Tickets are $5 each and will be available at the tea and at the Duck Race.

We hope to see you at the tea.
