Barbershop Chorus Concert Planned At Congregational Church
The Danbury Mad Hatter Chorus will present a concert at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, on Friday, May 20.
The concert will take place at 7 pm in the sanctuary of the church. A door prize to be awarded.Â
The Mad Hatter Barbershop Chorus is a menâs acapella singing organization. The Mad Hatters were chartered in 1966 and adopted their name from the hat manufacturing center that was in Danbury. They sing barbershop, a rich panoply of four-part acapella close harmony cords which began as a melting pot of African folk and spirituals, European hymns and 19th century vaudeville. Today, barbershop includes songs from the Gay 90âs and roaring 20s to Broadway, novelty, pop and doo-wop.
Admission is $10, with light refreshments to be served after the concert.
Contact Marie Sturdevant (203-740-2733) or the church office (203-426-9024) for tickets and additional information.
