Wilbur Weston Schofield, Sr

Wilbur Weston Schofield Sr, 84, of Bethel, husband of the late Doris (White) Schofield, died at Glen Hill/Harborside on May 8. Mr Schofield was born in Bethel on June 4, 1920, son of the late Thomas and Annie (Weston) Schofield.

He is survived by his six children and their spouses, Daniel and Joann Schofield of Newtown, Sharon and Dean, Sanford of Chrisman, Ill., Susan and Michael Markey of Bethel, Amy and Chris Clark of Bethel, Wilbur and Sandy Schofield, Jr, of Bethel, and Stephen Schofield of Danbury; his brothers and sisters, Ada White of Brookfield, Jane Fairchild of Missouri, Paul Schofield of New Hampshire, Barbara Gervasoni of Danbury, Marguerite Verner of Redding, Thomas Schofield of Florida, and Aarron Schofield of New Hampshire; 13 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by two sisters, Genevieve and Rachel.

A lifelong Bethel resident, Wilbur attended Bethel Schools prior to his enlistment into the US Navy, serving in World War II. Wilbur had worked as a hatter and as a mechanic for more than 30 years with Dan Ridge-Fair Cadillac.

A funeral service took place on May 11 at the Green Funeral Home, Danbury. Burial followed in St Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel.
