SUV Leaves Road In Multiple Crash

A sport-utility vehicle that was traveling on Mt Pleasant Road early on the morning of May 7, went off the street and into a back yard, hitting several objects there, but fortunately missing striking a house on the property.

Police said motorist Christopher W. Allen, 18, of Bethel was driving a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder uphill and westward on Mt Pleasant Road at about 5:37 am and was approaching a curve in the road to the right, near the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Reservoir Road.

Allen later told police that he fell asleep, after which the vehicle failed to negotiate the curve to the right and crossed over into the eastbound lane.

The Nissan then went off the road near the intersection of Reservoir Road and Mt Pleasant Road, police said.

The vehicle hit a curb, but missed a utility pole, struck a tree and then went down an embankment, traveled about 150 feet and then struck a stone wall and a tree, police said. The vehicle missed hitting a house on the property.  The accident occurred on the property at 2 Knollwood Drive, which abuts Mt Pleasant Rd.

Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters went to the scene. The ambulance corps transported Allen to Danbury Hospital for treatment of cuts and general pain, police said. Police issued Allen an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.
