Ninita             Newman

Ninita Newman, 92, died on May 3 in Arlington, Va. She was the daughter of George P. and Ninita (Pendleton) Fournier and was born in Torrington June 25, 1912.

She leaves her daughter Maureen and her husband, Thomas, of Newtown and her son William J. and his wife, Cheryl T. Newman, of Falls Church, Va., her devoted caretakers during her final eight years. She also leaves ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom were her pride and joy.

Also surviving her are her sister, Barbara F. Gilbert, and cousin Marcia L. Pond, both of Essex, and her cousins Shirley F. Lindsey of Oakland, N.J., and Geraldine M. Nocera of Daytona Beach, Fla.

Her husband, Franklin C. Newman, died in 1968. She was also predeceased by two granddaughters.

In her twenties she worked in Winsted for the family bakery (Fournier’s Bakery) run by her father, his brother Frederick, and nephew, Frederick Jr.

During the 50s and 60s she was a teller at the First National Bank of Litchfield. Her favorite jobs included managing the Toy Caboose in Newtown and working in sales at Lux, Bond, Green and Stevens in Hartford.

Her striking beauty was admired by many. Her energy, enthusiasm, and sense of humor won her many friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14, at 1 pm, at the Winchester (Conn.) Congregational Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cyrenius H. Booth Library of Newtown.
