Greyhound Group Seeks Help
John Manley of Newtown, a local supporter of the Greyhound Rescue & Rehabilitation (GRR) organization, said the GRR is scrambling to find homes for racing greyhounds as a result of the sudden closing of the Plainfield Greyhound track scheduled for May 14.
It is estimated that approximately 500 to 600 dogs will need to be absorbed into greyhound adoption groups.
GRR also is in immediate need of foster homes to help accommodate the dogs that will be released from Plainfield before adoptive homes are found.
âWeâre looking for people that are familiar with the breed; maybe they have had a greyhound or currently have one in residence and could take in another as a foster,â said GRR President Christine Johnson. âGreyhounds make terrific pets. They arenât hyper and donât need any more exercise than other large breeds. They take retirement seriously.â
The dogs range in age from 2 to 6, will be spayed/neutered, and have a complete medical examination prior to adoption.
