Passenger Dies In South Main Street Vehicle Crash
Newtown Police are reporting that a man has died after a car collided with a tree off South Main Street in the early morning hours of May 6.
According to a post on the Newtown Police Department Facebook page, at approximately 2:09 am, a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on South Main Street when it crossed the southbound travel lane and left the roadway. The truck crashed into a tree to the north of South Main Street’s intersection with Greenbriar Lane.
Both occupants of the vehicle were transported to Danbury Hospital. The passenger, Paltin Loja, 26, of Danbury, was later pronounced dead.
The driver was not identified in the police announcement.
Newtown Hook & Ladder, Botsford Fire Rescue, a Nuvance ambulance crew, a Danbury ambulance crew, and a paramedic all responded to the crash.
South Main Street in the area of the crash was subsequently closed for hours while detectives began their investigation.
