Senior Citizen Prom An Evening Of Fun
Newtown High School's cafetorium was full of dancing, food, and fun the evening of May 4, when Newtown Parks & Recreation hosted its Senior Citizen Prom.
This year's theme was "Fly Me To The Moon," and the cafetorium was decorated with glittering lights and a large half-moon. The event was hosted on the same evening as the high school's Senior Prom for the graduates of the Class of 2018. Roughly 35 people attended the event.
Newtown Parks and Recreation Assistant Director RoseAnn Reggiano was quick on her feet across the dance floor throughout the evening, entertaining event goers. DJ Kevin "Music Man" Koschel provided music, and people frequented the dance floor, as couples or in groups with friends.
Student representatives from the Newtown Youth & Family Services (NYFS) FUSION program and from Ben's Lighthouse also attended the event. According to Ms Reggiano, the students learned a few dance moves from the attending seniors during the evening.
At one point during the prom, John Boccuzzi, Sr, danced with both his wife, Vicki, and granddaughter Sabrina Boccuzzi. The trio was quickly surrounded by friends, though, and a dancing circle formed.
Timothy Wakeman said the evening was enjoyable, and he had fun taking photos with Diana Coviello and Dolores Miller in the photo booth provided by the DJ. Mr Wakeman said the evening made him "feel like a movie star."
Following the event, Ms Reggiano said the entire evening was "absolutely fabulous." She has already started working with local seniors to make plans for next year.
