Cheryl Szarek
Cheryl Szarek, 74, passed away peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Saturday, May 8, after a two-year courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Stanley Szarek for over 48 years.
Cheryl was born in Bridgeport, on September 15, 1946, to the late Clayton and Vivian Kenyon (Bondeson). After she and Stanley met and got married, they decided to raise their three daughters in Newtown and never left since. The two of them loved to vacation and travel all over New England, but Cape Cod was always Cheryl’s favorite. She was able to travel there just last year together with her entire family. Cheryl played many roles throughout her life including being a daughter, sister, and mother, but the one she was most proud of was being Mee Mee to her eight grandchildren.
Besides her loving husband, Stanley, Cheryl will be sorely missed by her three daughters: Stacey (George) Kobrock, Danah (Chris) Padula, and Megan Verlander; as well as her grandchildren: Emma, Jack, Maggie, Aidan, Abigail, Jolie, Caroline, and Zachary. She will also be missed by her two dogs: Taffy and Snickers. Cheryl is survived by one brother, Wayne (Debbie) Kenyon, and many other extended family members.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 13, at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South in Southbury. Those who attend are asked to wear Cheryl’s favorite colors, anything bright and vibrant. Interment will be private and will take place at Stepney Cemetery with her late mother and brother.
Memorial contributions in Cheryl’s name are asked to be directed to the Newtown Animal Control Shelter, 21 Old Farm Road, Newtown CT 06470.
